Obituary
Patti Ann Melanson
On Saturday December 15, 2018 Patti Ann Melanson died at home in the arms of her husband and two daughters, three-and-a-half years after her cancer diagnosis. She was born July 30, 1966, and raised in the proud coal mining community of Joggins to Carolyn Hedley and Bobby Melanson. Patti was a nurse and activist whose work in the community has been acknowledged with many awards, most recently with her induction into the Order of Nova Scotia, although recognition was far from the intent of her work. Patti gave her whole heart to the people served with the only intention of providing understanding and care to people living at the margins of society. Patti loved big, but was loved even bigger. Her friends and family - husband, Chris DeBow; daughters, Mackenzie Oram and Ella DeBow; mother, Carolyn; late father, Bobby; sisters, Carla Chambers and Stephanie Hurley, their partners and her incredible nieces and nephews - will miss her more than they can explain. She was a patient and supportive aunt, a wise and caring older sister, a sweet and devoted daughter, the most loving and generous mother, a best friend and an incredible wife. A service to honour and commemorate her time with all of us will be held at Pier 21 in Kenneth Rowe Hall on Thursday, December 20th at 11a.m. To help continue Patti's work and legacy, we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mobile Outreach Street Health (MOSH) program at the North End Community Health Centre.
