Obituary
There passed peacefully away on Mch. 21st at O'Leary, a prominent and highly esteemed citizen, Mrs. Mary Emeline Costain, at the age of 92 years. A former resident of Cape Wolfe, widow of the late Deacon William Thomas Costain, she was known and beloved by young and old. She was always interested in anything pertaining to the welfare of her community, and in all that concerned the advancement and extension of the Christian Church. A humble and sincere follower of her Lord and Master, her life was a veritable benediction to all with whom she came in contact. Sixty years ago she founded the Women's Missionary Society at Locke Road, which later became the Springfield W. M. S., of which she was president for over forty years. The funeral service was on Tuesday afternoon, Mch. 24th from the home of her sister, Mrs. Janie Smallman of O'Leary, to the Springfield Baptist Church, and was conducted by her Pastor, Rev. C. 0. Howlett. Some of her favorite Hymns were sung: "The Lord's My Shepherd", "Rock of Ages", and "Safe in The Arms of Jesus". A splendid solo "The Heart That Was Broken for Me", was beautifully rendered by J. B. Lewis of Freetown. Mrs. Costain was pre-deceased by her husband fourteen years ago. She leaves to mourn one son, Colin C. Costain, and two daughters, Mrs. Leslie Albert MacLean (Ruby), and Mrs. Bliss MacDougall (Marian), all of O'Leary and vicinity. One daughter, Mrs. R. L. Schuxman (Ella), of Halifax, pre-deceased her seven years ago. Also left are two sisters: Mrs. Janie Smallman of O'Leary and Mrs. D. Lee Waters of Mass., and two brothers, C. I. Lidstone of Tyne Valley, and Millage Lidstone of Spokane, Wash.. The interment was in the Church Cemetery.
