MOUNT PLEASANT - This community was shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing on April 12, of Hilda Jane Mattinson, wife of Ross Mattinson. She suffered a stroke in the early evening and passing away shortly after midnight. Born on Aug. 12, 1890, she was the daughter of the late Ellen and Jerry McDonald of Mount Pleasant, where she had spent almost her entire life. Twice married, her first husband was the late Angus Mattinson, who predeceased her 46 years ago. In 1919, she married Ross Mattinson, who survives her. She is also survived by three sons, Norman, River Philip; Miner, Oxford; by her first marriage; Lawrence of Oxford Jct., one daughter, (Mildred) Mrs. Lorne Priest, Oxford, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Besides the children she leaves to mourn three sisters, (Lina) Mrs. James Dickie, Oxford; (Mabel) Mrs. Stanley Dixon, Oxford; (Lottie) Mrs. Barry Mattinson, Mount Pleasant and two brothers John and Frank McDonald of Oxford. The funeral was held from Black's Funeral Home, Oxford, on Thursday, Apr. 14 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. John Porter, minister of the Oxford United Baptist Church. The hymns sung were "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The 23rd Psalm." Interment was in Birch Grove Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, directed by Frank Black and Son. Pallbearers were three nephews, Russell McDonald, Francis McDonald, Carl Dickie and Herbert Mayne, Aubrey Mattinson and William Cloney. The beautiful floral offerings were a final tribute to the deceased, showing the place she had held in the hearts of her loved ones and friends.
