Obituary
Oulton, Margaret Elizabeth Monday, 31 Jan 2005
Oulton, Margaret Elizabeth peacefully passed on Jan. 31 with her children by her side. Margaret was the last member of the Jones Family of eight who immigrated from Wales to the Bulkley Valley in 1927. The family arrived in Halifax aboard the famous immigrant ship the “Montcalm.” They travelled across Canada by train to Smithers. They stayed in a little house above Tyhee Lake. Margaret walked down to the lake every day to get water. They had no furniture and the house had dirt floors. Later, they moved into Smithers and started a wonderful new life in a new land. Margaret married Leslie Oulton in 1932 and together they raised a family of five. After a short stay in Kitimat and Kamloops, where Les was employed with the C.N.R., the family moved to the Lower Mainland where they lived for 25 years. “Marg” moved back to Smithers and lived in the Bulkley Lodge for the last few years.
She was predeceased by her husband Les in 1997, and two grandchildren, Terry (Thomas in 1985, then Linda (Ezelyk) in 1991. She is survived by her five children Verna Thomas (Bill), Dave Oulton (Jytte), Gwen Birkenthal (Kurt), Betty Davies (Dick), Don Oulton (Joan). She had nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren.
The family is sincerely grateful for the compassionate loving care she received at the Bulkley Lodge.
A special “Thank You” to Dr. Blouw for her kind attention to our mother.
There will be a memorial service at a later date for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations are to be sent to the Bulkley Lodge Social Committee.??
