Howard W. "Howie" Foss, Jr. December 08, 1943 - March 27, 2009
Howard W. “Howie” Foss, Jr. age 65 husband of Linda J. (Johnson) Foss died at home late Saturday evening March 27, 2009 following a brief illness. He and his living wife would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in November.
Born in Somerville, the son of the late Howard W. and Gertrude (Ernst) Sr., he was raised and educated in both Salem and Peabody. Mr. Foss attended Peabody High School, joined the United States Navy Seabees reserves and went on active duty as soon as he was allowed. Just before he was deployed overseas, he and his wife married. Mr. Foss then served his country proudly with two tours of duty in Viet Nam until being honorably discharged and returning home.
For many years he was employed as a machinist on the North Shore and was later employed by Garelick Farms (West Lynn Creamery) in Lynn for 15 years until becoming ill.
He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his Harley as well as camping in Milo, Maine with his family. Mr. Foss enjoyed tinkering around his home as well as helping other people and could fix anything.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Foss is survived by six children Howard Foss and his wife Diane of Salem, Bernadette Foss and her fiancée Dan Page of Sandown, NH, Matthew Foss and his wife Lynette of Salem, Melinda Farley and her husband Eric of Amesbury, Christopher Foss and his wife Roxanne of Somersworth, NH and
Jason Foss and his fiancée Jennifer Conners of Indianapolis, IN; a brother Ronald Foss of Peabody; two sisters Winifred Donatelli of Peabody and Brenda Delpozzo of Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; one great grand daughter and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister Barbara Turner.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
