Misc Notes from Dorchester's master Builder  [7
    • Excerpt from "Dorchester's Master Builder - JOHN FRANCIS TEED" by Helen M. Petchy, 1989.

Transcribed by N. Jennifer Atkinson, September, 11, 1999.

"In his business as a contractor J.F. Teed was very fortunate to have the services of his lawyer - son Bedford, a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, who practiced in Sackville. He witnessed his father's signature on contracts and was in
position to give advice on terms drawn up. In the later years of his father's ill health Bedford undertook correspondence about payment for work completed and the disposal of building materials. On one occasion Teed's clergyman son Arthur witnessed
signature, surely an acceptable substitute for the faithful Bedford. It was the latter, however, who was bidden to join his father in Cape Breton to help lighten the work of supervising the many building sites involved in the Cape Breton Railway
      Company contract.
Bedford Bulmer Teed did not marry and at the time of his mother's death in 1908 he had begun a new practice in Alameda, Saskatchewan. There he was taken ill and died in 1909. The lawyer was named for his maternal uncle, Bedford Bulmer, who had gon
New Zealand from his Frosty Hollow home.
While Bedford Teed eventually moved far from Dorchester, John Francis' other children remained in close touch with their Chignecto roots........."

Note: "Frosty Hollow" seems to be another term for the lower Mill Creek in Sackville, NB.
