Obituary
CUMBERLAND -- Diane Oulton Roberge, 61, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 4, 2013, as a result of complications of lifelong juvenile diabetes. She was born on Aug. 28, 1951, one of five children of Evelyn (Maxwell) and Frank Oulton. She was educated in Cumberland schools and graduated from Greely High School, Class of 1969.
A talented artist she went on to study at the Maine School of Art in Portland. She cultivated her art throughout her life until her vision began to fail. She adapted and went from pencil artwork to using a Sharpie.
She met and married Edward Roberge of Yarmouth, who happened to be in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Great Britain, and they lived there for three years. Being of English and Scottish descent Diane had a deep and abiding interest in all things English. Fully aware of the challenges pregnancy presented her given her diabetes she courageously became pregnant and gave birth to their daughter, Heather.
Diane will be remembered for her remarkable love for her three grandchildren. To say that the sun rose and set on Liam, Zoe and Aoife could be seen as an understatement in the eyes of those who knew her best.
Diane is survived by her daughter Heather Gordon and her husband Marc and their children, Liam, Zoe and Aoife of Matawan, N.J.; her father Frank Oulton of Falmouth; her three sisters, Nancy Smith of Cumberland, Sarah Lavelle and her husband Paul of Colorado, Ellie Barry of Cumberland, her brother Paul Oulton and his wife Betsy of Falmouth; her cousins Frankie and Ralph Oulton of Cumberland; as well as nieces and nephews.
A time of gathering and visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, from 1-3 p.m., with tributes being offered at 2:30 p.m., at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
