COLUMBIA, NH -- Mrs. Dorothy G. Gould, 90, of Columbia, NH, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, October 26, 2010, at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, NH, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Skowhegan, Me., on July 3, 1920, a daughter of the late Frank E. Oulton, Sr. and Annie (Gifford) Oulton. She was a graduate of the Gorham Normal School in Maine in 1941, and moved to the north country of NH to become a teacher. There she met her husband, Arthur M. Gould, and became a war bride.

Dot was a lover of music, and in her early years played the banjo and sang, being featured on the radio in Portland. After moving to NH, she became a member of the local singing group, the “Northern Aires.” Her 30-year teaching career in NH was for the Colebrook and Stewartstown school districts. Mrs. Gould was a lifelong member of the Metallak Retired Teachers Association, the Trinity United Methodist Church in Colebrook, and the Model A Restorers’ Club with her husband. At local parades and events, she was always seen in period costume riding along with Arthur in their pristine Model A.

Dot loved the ocean, her Border Collie dogs, crocheting and sewing, and she enjoyed making clothes for her children and grandchildren, including their dolls. She was a wonderful cook, and she cherished time with her family.

She leaves behind her husband of 67 years, Arthur M. Gould, of Columbia, NH; three daughters, Sharon Leicht of Stewartstown, NH, Donna Keazer of Columbia, NH, and Naples, Fl., and Sylvia Philbrook and her husband, Richard, of Eliot, Me.; two brothers, Frank E. Oulton, Jr. of Cumberland, Me., and Edward B. Oulton and wife, Barbara, of Cumberland Center, Me.; nine grandchildren, Pamela Morris and husband, Christopher, Jennifer Jeffers and husband, Hiram, Tyler Leicht, Jessica Barnhart and husband, John, Joanne Keazer-Novy and husband, Robert, Shannon Curran and husband, Matthew, Colene Keazer-Patal and husband, Jacob Townsend, Erin Cracolici and husband, Benedict, and Colin Philbrook; twelve great-grandchildren, Ian and Sean Morris, Sydney Jeffers, Hannah and Garret Curran, Zoriana and Lincoln Novy, Daman Patal, Ciera, Destiny and Deja Townsend, and Benedict Cracolici IV; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gould is preceded in death by a sister, Mary I. Norton.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 28, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, NH. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 29, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Colebrook with Pastor Janet Young officiating. Burial will follow at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
