Obituary
Edward B. Oulton, 85
FALMOUTH - Edward B. Oulton, 85, of Legacy Memory Care, Falmouth, formerly of Cumberland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014.
He was born in Portland on Aug. 5, 1929, to Frank E. Oulton Sr. and Annie Gifford Oulton, the youngest of four children, attended Cumberland schools and was a graduate of Greely Institute.
He was the devoted and loving husband of Barbara Bean Oulton whom he met through Gospel Crusaders. A third generation dairy farmer, Edward and brother Frank Jr., operated the family farm on Winn Road, Cumberland. While farming he also sold equipment and products for Jamesway, Grainger and Dion. He retired from farming in his late 50s when the farm was sold.
He went on to continue working on this same land, now known as The Falmouth Country Club, as a greenskeeper. After overcoming kidney cancer, he left their employ and went on to work as a driver for both RTP in Portland and later with Rowe Ford in Westbrook.
Over the years, he was a volunteer firefighter, served on the Board of Woodfords School in Portland, as president of the local chapter of Good Sam's RV Club (The Lake Region Wanderers), and was a member of the Maine Farm Bureau where he was a strong advocate for Maine farmers.
Always a man with a strong faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ, he served for many years as a Deacon and usher at the First Baptist Church in Portland. People were drawn to him by his friendly nature. As a compassionate and trusting man, many came to him for counseling and his Christian wisdom.
He loved to go camping with his wife and family. Starting out in a small 14' trailer with created sleeping spaces for seven, they would vacation for only one week each year. In later years, he and Barb would purchase larger trailers and finally an RV which they traveled around the country in and spent a few winter weeks in Florida visiting family and friends.
A jack-of-all-trades and mechanically inclined, he enjoyed fixing machinery and woodworking.
Ed will be sadly missed by his wife, Barbara, of 60 years; his daughter Carol Foster and husband Scot of W. Newbury, Mass., and their daughters, Hillary and Megan; his daughter Janice and husband Michael of Old Orchard Beach and their children, Kristen Rodriquez and husband Enrique, Travis and wife Olya, Dustin and wife Elizabeth, Rebecca Brown, and Melissa Dorazio and husband Joseph; his daughter Lois Oulton of Portland; his son David Oulton and wife Jennie and their daughter Katie; son Christopher Oulton of Saco; and great-grandchildren, Owen and Lily Rodriquez.
