Obituary
David Lloyd Hierlihy U.E. beloved husband of Karen Hierlihy, of Kamloops BC passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from complications caused by Myelodysplasia at the young age of 62. Born at Pembroke ON on Aug. 1, 1947 to Ed & Mary Hierlihy and later raised in Deep River Ontario. Dave took pride in his career as a member of the RCMP who joined the force in 1968 and had several transfers in Saskatchewan during his first 5 years. While in Yorkton, Dave met Karen and after a short romance they were married on April 15, 1972. From Yorkton, Dave and Karen transferred to Prince Rupert BC and after three years in the rain moved on to Port Alberni where their son Darin and daughter Andria were born. From there the family transferred to Duncan and finally to Kamloops, which they have called home for the past 24 years. Retiring from the force in 1993 Dave kept busy working at Truefit Form Rentals, the Kamloops Christian Hostel, and finally with Pro Check Home Services; which he quite enjoyed. Over the years he found great pleasure tracing his and Karen's family genealogies as well as anyone else that approached him with an interest in digging up their roots. Dave also spent spare time as the treasurer of the RCMP Vets and the secretary of Gateway Estates as well as volunteering for the FSNA. Dave is survived by his wife Karen, son Darin Hierlihy of Squamish BC, daughter Andria (Dave) McClenaghan and their children Emileigh (8) & Marshall (3) of Yorkton, SK. Sisters Eleanor (Steve) Cawthorne, Marilee (Jim) McKay, and brother Robert (Anne) Hierlihy all of Ontario. Brothers-in-law Glenn (Linda) Miller, Bruce (Sue) Miller, sisters-in-law Donna (Collin) Liebrecht, Marlene (Rick) Schrader, Myrna (Bruce) Nielsen, Laura (Duane) Pelechaty, and father-in-law John Miller all of Saskatchewan as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Also mourning his passing is long time friend and neighbor Pat Fraser (Overlander Extended Care Home) and mans best friend "SLICK" a most faithful companion. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at RIH that cared for Dave and also a huge thank you to all of our friends, neighbors, and especially family for all of the love, help, and support throughout these tough times.
Respecting Dave's wishes there will be no immediate service. A family service will be held at a later date in Yorkton SK where he will be laid to rest. Flowers respectfully declined. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, 311 Columbia Street, Kamloops, BC V2C 2T1 in memory of Dave.
