STRIGHT, Trueman Thomas "Trap" - 82, Pictou, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Little Shemogue, N.B., he was a son of the late James Leslie and Greta Maude (Walton) Stright. Trap grew up in Summerside, P.E.I. A veteran of the Second World War, he joined the Navy in 1941, and served on convoy duty in the North Atlantic and Pacific. He moved to Pictou after the war and with his father and brothers, established J.L. Stright & Sons, which later became Stright-MacKay Ltd. A master boat builder, he served as president of Stright-MacKay, was president of Pictou Kinsmen, King Lion of Pictou Lions Club, Commodore of Pictou Yacht Club, a member of Admiral Murray Branch, Royal Canadian Naval Association, and a member of Pictou United Church. Trap's greatest passions were boats, sailing and racing. Surviving are his wife, Ann Young; son, Bill (Kim) Stright, Pictou; stepchildren, John (Tammy) Young, Halifax; Peter (Michelle) Young, New Glasgow; Lorraine (Paul Phillips) Young, Truro; Dria Young, at home; grandchildren, Josh and Tyler Stright; stepgrandchildren, Logan, Grace, Emily, Allan, Molly, Morley, and Madi; sisters, Vivian (Al) MacPhee, New Minas; Helen Campbell, Wolfville; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Olive "Ollie" Jane Cameron; brothers, Herbert and Ivan. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Pictou United Church, Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Pictou Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program, P.O. Box 1295, Pictou, NS B0K 1H0.
