ROBERT LESTER OGDEN 1916 - 2005
Robert Lester Ogden, of the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home and formerly of Riverview, passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 4, 2005, at the age of 89, with his daughter at his side.
Born in Jolicure, NB., he was the son of the late Frank and Minnie (Oulton) Ogden.
Robert was a farmer in his early years, and was subsequently employed for many years with Eatons in Moncton, where he enjoyed his work with the City Delivery.
He loved gardening, and took up golf and bowling following his retirement. He especially enjoyed his weekly bowling sessions with the seniors' group in Riverview.
He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs games.
Robert was a long-time member of the Riverview Baptist Church.
He will be remembered by all who knew him for his kind and gentle disposition, his wonderful sense of humour, and his ability to recite lengthy poems by heart and to spin good "yarn".
Robert will be sadly missed and remembered with great love by his daughter, Sharon, of Moncton.
He was predeceased in September 2005 by Georgie, his beloved wife of 59 years.
Robert is survived by his sister, Jennie Somerville of Fredericton, his brother, Floyd (Sylvia) of Wales, as well as several nieces and nephews, including his close nephew and namesake, Rob Ogden of Richmond, B.C. He was predeceased by one sister, Hazel Oulton, five brothers, Nelson, Bert, Merville, Elvie and Willis.
Robert has been a cherished brother-in-law, uncle and friend to his sister-in-law, Verna Chambers, and her husband Wes of Petitcodiac, and their daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Wayne Dunfield of Moncton and Lois and Bill McGibbon of Anagance. He will be missed by Ginny the cat, whom he and Georgie welcomed into their home at Christmas time in 1991.
Resting at the Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. with visitation on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
The Funeral Service will be held at Riverview Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jonathan Gorham officiating.
Interment will be in Alderwood Cemetery, Riverview.
Donations in Robert's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Riverview Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
