POINT DE BUTE, NB - Herman Wells, 78, of Point de Bute, NB, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Born on March 31, 1924 in Sackville, NB, he was the son of Evelyn and of the late Leslie Jones. Herman was a member of the Carlton and York Regiment of the Canadian Army and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 26, Sackville, for fifty-five years. He worked for Auto Haul Away Ltd. in Moncton, NB, for many years. Herman is survived by his wife Betty Steel Smillie Wells of Sackville, NB; his mother Evelyn of Ontario; five daughters, Verna (Wayne) Frew of Moncton, NB, Betty Anne (Steve) Stathis of Australia, Sheila (Albert) Sweeney, Toronto, Ontario, Margaret (Glen) Murdock of Australia and Lorna Wells of Oromocto, NB; four sons, Bill (Alida) Wells of Northern Ontario, John (Cathy) Wells of Moncton, NB, Charles Wells of Moncton, NB, and James (Cheryl) Wells of Sackville, NB; three sisters, Mary, Marjorie and Doris, all of Ontario; three brothers, Wallace, Donald of P.E.I., and Leo of Ontario. He was predeceased by daughter Carol Marie and two sisters Shirley Doucette and Marie Gallant. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, NB (364-8188). His remains have been forwarded to Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, for the advancement of science as requested by Herman. A Legion Service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 7:30 pm from Campbell's Funeral Home, with Chaplain Allan Sears officiating. A reception will follow the service with refreshments provided by the Ladies of St. Marks Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Herman's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Children's Wish Foundation or the charity of one's choice.
