      SMITH, Thelma Evelyn - 85, East Amherst, died January 3, 2000, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Port Elgin, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Richea and Bertha Fillmore. She was a member of the Shinimicas United Church and an avid supporter and honorary member of the UCW for many years. She had taught Sunday School, Mission Band, Explorers and supported the Red Cross. She had been a cook in many logging camps and had run several boarding houses in Amherst. She had lived in Ontario where she had run a boarding house and worked for Martin's Frozen Foods. Surviving are adopted daughters, Muriel Smith, Shinimicas, Barbara Yach, Shawville, Que.; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Layton in 1997; foster daughters, Beryl Linton, Shirley Kenney; two grandsons; sisters, Pauline Smith, Agnes Linton; brothers, Ernest, Clem, Lloyd, Bruce. Visitation 2- 4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday, in Cumberland Memorial Chapel, Rev. Morley Bentley officiating. Burial in the Shinimicas United Church Cemetery. Donations to Sunrise Trinity United Church, Highland View Regional Hospital Foundation or Palliative Care or any charity.
