TOWNSHEND, RONALD - It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Ronald L. Townshend, 92, on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Windsor Court, Fredericton. Born in Moncton, NB, he was a son of the late John and Violet (Smith) Townshend. Ronald loved visiting the Townshend homestead in Jolicure as a young boy, and farmed there for a few years after graduating from MacDonald College in Montreal. After meeting and marrying his wife Barbara, they moved to St. Lambert, QC. His career in the agricultural field with the provincial and federal governments allowed them to live in various cities across Canada, ending in Fredericton where he lived for the past 47 years. His interests included genealogy, gardening, stamp collecting, and the railway. He will be missed by his wife Barbara (Spence), Fredericton; son Gary (Lynda), Toronto; daughter Martha (Chuck) Townshend Colford, Ottawa; two granddaughters, Elizabeth, Montreal and Suzanne, Ottawa; sister Ruth (Jim) Maben, Oakville, ON, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother Robert and sister Audrey Smith.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, Sackville, NB (506-364-1300). A graveside remembrance service will be held at a later date in the Old Presbyterian Cemetery, Jolicure, NB. Those wishing to make a donation in Ronald's memory may do so to the Old Presbyterian Cemetery in Jolicure. www.jonesfuneralhome.ca
