Obituary
GENEVIEVE MARIE GRASBY (NEE VIENNEAU)
May 10, 1927 – Rough Waters, New Brunswick
September 4, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
Genevieve (Gennie) Marie Grasby (nee Vienneau) of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2020 at the age of 93.
Gennie was born to parents, Alvin and Eva Vienneau on May 10, 1927 in Rough Waters, NB. She grew up as the fourth of twelve children and attended high school in East Bathurst, nursing training in Campbellton, NB, and subsequently went on to practice nursing with the Royal Canadian Navy in Halifax, NS. She left the Maritimes to journey across Canada, first working as an operating room nurse in Niagara Falls and then, in 1958, moving to Calgary to practice nursing at the General Hospital. Shortly after she met John and in 1961, they married. Three boys followed and Gennie joyfully devoted her time to raising their boys.
Gennie, a voracious reader and tremendous storyteller, was loving, kind, generous and full of fun. She made her beloved family the focus of her life. Gennie warmly welcomed and loved her daughters-in-law and as the family grew, so did her regular Sunday night dinners. She delighted in hosting them well into her 80s adding more and more chairs for her grandchildren and always welcoming friends and visitors into her home and to her table.
Gennie is survived, and will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband John and her sons, Robert (Carol), Andrew (Jennifer) and Stephen, her sister Irene, and her brothers, Claude, Louis and Eric; as well as her six grandchildren whom she adored: Logan, Luke, Emma, Aidan, Gabriella and Millicent. She was predeceased by her brothers, Aruele, Kenneth, Vincent and Eloi and sisters, Kathleen, Claudette and Jean.
Given current restrictions, a private cremation will take place and a celebration of her life will be held for family and close friends at a future date.
Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Genevieve’s obituary at the.McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes website.
