Bell from Ship George H Oulton
Bell from Ship George H Oulton
There were two ships with the name George H Oulton. The first was registered in Saint John, NB and was lost at sea en route from New York to France on 1 Jan 1871. A second ship was built in 1872 in Sackville, NB and registered in Saint John, NB. It was wrecked off Howth, Co Dublin, Ireland on 24 Oct 1881 during a trip from Antwerp, Belgium to Saint John, NB. Both ships are believed to have been owned by George Heber Oulton and his brother, Charles Harvey Oulton, who were shipping merchants in Saint John, NB during this time period.

I was told by Terry Oulton that the bell was recovered in the Gulf of St Lawrence, but this doesn't match the locations of either wreck.
