    Obituary, Gloucester Times, August 25, 1986, p. 10:  "Edward J. Abell, 74:  Edward James Abell, of 8 High Street Court, Rockport, husband of Kathleen A. (Fears) Abell, died Friday evening at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.  He was born in Methuen, October 21, 1911, to the late Claude J. and Margaret V. (Bell) Abell.  Mr. Abell was educated in the public schools in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.  He was a veteran of World War II serving the Royal Canadian Army, 14th Field Ambulance.  He took part in the D-Day invasion in France and served a total of four years of overseas duty.  He was awarded the Defense Medal and the Royal Gold and Bronze Star of Canada.  He worked as a custom broker for the Canadian National Railways and later for the Seamark Corp. in Boston.  He retired in 1972.  He was a member of the Edward Peterson Post No. 98 American Legion of Rockport, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Tweedie Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.  In addition to his wife, Mr. Abell is survived by four sons, Edward J. Abell, Jr. of Gloucester, Stephen D. Abell of Ross Corners, Maine, Lyle R. Abell of Rockport, and Frederick K. Abell of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter Jane Grover of Haverhill; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a sister, Marjorie O'Brien of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.  Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 am in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport.  The Rev. James R. Koerth of the First Baptist Church, Rockport, will officiate.  There will be no visiting hours.  Memorial gifts in his name may be made to the Addison Gilbert Hospital Support Services, 298 Washington St., Gloucester, Mass., 01930.  Funeral arrangements are being conducted by the James C. Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St."

    Marriage Announcement, Gloucester Times, Thursday, June 17, 1937, p. 2:  "ABELL-FEARS WEDDING HAS BRILLIANT JUNE EVENT.  Rockport, June 17 - A pretty June wedding ceremony was performed at the Baptist church yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock when Kathleen Avis Fears, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Fears, became the bride of Edward James Abell, son of Mrs. Margaret Abell of Moncton, N.B.  The bride was given in marriage by her father.  Her attendants were as maid of honor, Miss Barbara Hodgkins of Rockport and Atlantic City, N.J.; the bridesmaids, Miss Marion Hodgkins of Rockport and the bride's cousin, Miss Katherine Bell of Worcester.  The groom was attended by David Bell of Worcester, also a cousin to the bride.  The bride's gown was of French lace with net veil; she carried a bride's bouquet of white roses.  The maid of honor's gown was of blue lace, while she carried tea rose.  The bridesmaids wore chiffon in a like shade of blue.  The bouquets were of tea roses.  All three wore hats of a shade of blue.  The church was decorated with roses of pink and yellow and an abundance of other June flowers.  The ceremony of the double ring service was performed by the Rev. Ernest E. Ventres, pastor of the Baptist Church.  The music which preceded the ceremony and closed it was played by the church organist, Miss Margaret E. Allen.  Ushers were Charles C. Fears, Jr., the bride's brother, and Alfred Comeau of Gloucester.  After the ceremony a wedding reception was held at the Rockport Golf Club which was largely attended by guests from Rockport, Gloucester, Moncton, N.B., and other communities.  A collation was served with orchestra and music throughout the reception.  The young couple will make their home at Moncton, N.B."
