Obituary

Death of John Oulton.—We are pained to record the sudden death of John Oulton, one of the prominent citizens of Kern County, who residence has been among us for several years past.  Mr. Oulton will be remembered as the appointee of the Board of Supervisors two years ago, to investigate the accounts of the county officials, the report of which gave him special prominence, and saved many thousands of dollars to the county.  Since that time he has been engaged in farming, and died of typhoid fever at his residence in Canfield, on Tuesday [22   May 1877].  He leaves a family consisting of a wife [Ann Eliza] and three  children [Emma, Harold, Charles], who have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.

I, Christina Oulton, of Pugwash River in the County of Cumberland and
Province of Nova Scotia, widow of sound mind and understanding and
considering the uncertainty of life do make and devise this my last will
and testament. It is my will that my executors to be hereafter named
should dispose of whatever Estate I may be possessed of at my death in
the following manner-- That is to say to my Granddaughter, Emma Oulton,
my grandsons, Harold Oulton and Charles Oulton, children of my son John
Oulton I give and bequeath the sums of one dollar each. To George Oulton
my grandson son of my son Charles Oulton I give and bequeath the sum of
twenty dollars. And to my Granddaughter Mary McLean daughter of my my
daughter Christina McLean I give and bequeath the sum of twenty
dollars--also to my granddaughter Christina Chisolm I give and bequeath
the sum of twenty cents. All the residue of my Estate be it personal of
any kind whatsoever after payment of above bequests I give, bequest and
