    AMHERST - Edsel McLean Smith, 47, of 69 Hickman Street, died Saturday in the Highland View Regional Hospital.  Born in Shinimicas, he was a son of the late Guy W. and Carrie (Mills) Smith.  Owner and operator of the Smith Grocery Store on Hickman Street, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 10.  Surviving him are a son, Darryle, at home; two sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Victor Aminsson) East Amherst; Mrs. Jen Carman, Waltham, Mass.; two brothers, Reginald, Waltham; Joseph, Marlborough, Mass.   Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Betty Fields of Amherst.  The body is at Furlong's Funeral Home, where funeral service will take place Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Malcolm Cogswell officiating.  Burial will be in Shinimicas.
