    HOWLAND – Wilbur “Joe” John Carrell, 82, went home to be with our Lord Aug. 26, 2007, at a Howland health care facility. He was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Oakland, the son of Wilbur and Annie (Ellis) Carrell. Joe served in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending his service time in Europe. He graduated from New Brunswick Bible Institute in 1954. He met his beloved wife of 51 years, Dorothy and they were married Feb. 9, 1956, in Nigeria, Africa, while serving as missionaries with the Sudan Mission. He and Dorothy resided in Maine and are members of Passadumkeag Baptist Church. Joe was a maintenance man in hospitals and worked as a mechanic. He was a selfless man with a servant heart and loved to do for others. He was the cook for family feeds and loved us all dearly.He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Eleanor and Muriel; and a brother, Eugene. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ada (Schurman) Carrell; a brother, Edward; two sons, John R. and Timothy G.; their wives, Diane and Sally; three granddaughters, four stepgrandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. After World War II, Joe gave his heart and life to our Lord Jesus Christ and made him his own personal Savior. Joe’s favorite book in the Bible was Job, of which he read through often and now claims Job 19: 25 & 26, “For I know my redeemer liveth and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.” A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date for anyone to attend.     HOWLAND - Dorothy A. (Schurman) Carrell went home to be with our Lord and Savior Oct. 17, 2009, in Howland. She was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, daughter of Robert and Ella Schurman. She graduated from nursing school at Toronto General Hospital in 1948, attended New Brunswick Bible Institute graduating in 1953 and then went to Nigeria, Africa, under the Sudan Interior Mission as a nurse/missionary. While attending Bible school she met and fell in love with Wilbur J. Carrell "Joe." They were married Feb. 9, 1956, in Egbe, Kabba Province of Nigeria, Africa. Returning home to the states in 1958, she used her nursing skills as a registered nurse at the veterans' hospital in Augusta, and later at Thayer Hospital, Waterville, then retired from Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. She is survived by two sons, John R. and Timothy G. Carrell and their wives, Diane and Sally; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A committal service for family and friends will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gould's Ridge Cemetery, Passadumkeag. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln.
