    BEATON (nee Weeks), Eleanor Leona - 71, Elgin Street Seniors Complex, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan. Born in River Hebert East, she was a daughter of the late Leon L. and Janet H. (Burnet) Weeks. Eleanor was employed with the Springhill Police Department for 17 years. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and Willing Workers, and volunteered for several organizations. She is survived by sons, Gary (special friend Alicia Davis) Beaton and Duane (Susan) Beaton, both of Springhill; daughters, Janet Beaton, Halifax, and Janice Gunning, Dartmouth; sisters, Edna Weatherbee, Amherst, and Debbie (Allan) Wessell, West Amherst; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, where visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today. A memorial funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 20, in Springhill Baptist Church, with Rev. Perry Hanley officiating. Burial in Amherst Cemetery, Amherst, at a later date. If so desired, donations to Springhill Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice would be appreciated.

    AMHERST - Leon Layton Weeks, Cornwall Street, Amherst, passed away at the Highland View Hospital early Sunday evening. Although he had only been seriously ill for the past few days, he had not been well since his operation two years ago. He was 50 years of age, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Smith Weeks of Amherst Shore. He was born at Amherst Shore and had resided in Amherst for the past 14 years. Prior to this, he spent a few years in Nappan and Wallace Bridge. Mr. Weeks had operated his own auto salvage business in Amherst for the past 12 years. Prior to this he was employed by the Department of Highways for three years and spent four years with the Canada Car and Foundry. He was a former member of the IOOF Micmac encampment. Besides his wife, the former Janet Burnet of River Hebert, he is survived by three daughters, Eleanor (Mrs. Donald Beaton), Berwick; Edna and Debra, at home; two sisters, Esther (Mrs. Alex McInnis), Mildred (Mrs. Norman Tuttle), Amherst; two brothers, Earl, Amherst and Bliss, Wallace Bridge and several nieces and nephews. The remains are resting at Furlong's funeral home, Amherst. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The remains will be placed in the Highland View cemetery vault.
