    BLACK, Charles Wesley - 68, Oxford, Cumberland Co., passed away in North
    Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash, on Monday, October 27, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Springhill, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Minetta J. (Porter) Black. He was a member of Oxford United Baptist Church and the Oxford Area Men's Club. He was also past Worshipful Master of Wimburn Masonic Lodge 75 AF&AM in Oxford. He served as a volunteer fireman with the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years. He was on the Board of Trustees of Oxford United Baptist Church, and served as Director of the Board of Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery Corp. Charlie worked with his father for many years operating Frank A. Black & Son Funeral Home in Oxford, eventually taking over the business. He retired from the business in 1973 to pursue his interest as a skilled craftsman and carpenter. He developed the Black Subdivision in Oxford and built many homes in the area. He willingly volunteered his services within the community and in his later years he served as a building inspector with Correctional Services Canada. He was an outdoorsman and an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Charlie was known for his quick wit and sense of humour. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, the former Willa R. McCormack; son, Michael C. (Jill) Black, Halifax; daughter, Lori A. (Corbin) Comishin, Nelson, B.C.; grandchildren, Kelsea and Lauren Black, Halifax; Kaleb and Connor Comishin, Nelson, B.C.; and a number of cousins. Visitation will be this afternoon and this evening in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford. Winburn Masonic Lodge 75 AF&AM will hold a tribute service this evening at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 30, in Oxford United Baptist Church, Rev. Blair Holden officiating. Interment will take place in Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery Memorial Fund, Oxford United Baptist Church Memorial Fund, Oxford Fire Department Firefighters Memorial Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
