    Ralph A. Henwood 1936-2015
    It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Amasa Henwood, age 78, of Springhill.  Ralph passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Saturday, February 7, 2015.
    Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Thornton and Kathleen (Embree) Henwood.
    Ralph's working career lasted 44 years in the mining industry, starting at the age of 16 he went to work in #2 Mine, Springhill.  He was involved in the rescue and recovery operation in the #4 Mine Explosion in 1956 also #2 Bump in 1958.  He worked at the Syndicate Mine until it finished.  He studied mining, receiving his Mine Manager Papers, then managed the River Hebert coal mine for several years.  While at this position he received, in 1978, a medallion for his service in the Canadian Mining industry (B.T.A.) Bell Commemorative.
    In 1979 Ralph accepted a position with the Department of Mines as a Mine Rescue and First-Aid Instructor and later transferred to Mine Inspector Position.  Ralph was a member of the Springhill Baptist Church.  He enjoyed playing cards, Yahtzee, darts and washers, time with family at the cottage at Cameron's Beach, and especially spending time with his old friend Herb.  He has been a longtime fan of the Toronto Bluejays and always enjoyed watching them play.
    Ralph will be missed by his five children, Ernel (Sandra) of Westville, NS, Robert (Kim) of Springhill, Jamie (Heather), Springhill, Catherine (Robert) Parsons, of Truro, NS, Diana (Eddie) Pettigrew, Springhill; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister Linda Harrison.
    Predeceased by Wife Helen (Boyce) Henwood; brothers David and Harry and sister Marilyn Michelson.
     Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Service, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361).  An Afternoon of Remembrance will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 2 pm to 4 pm.
