He was a bricklayer. He had a silver fox farm for a while. Their farm had one cow, a few pigs, lots of hens and geese and vegetables and fruits enough to sell. Alphée was somewhat of a guru in the village, read tea leaves, prescribed folk remedies, removed warts, predicted the weather, told folk tales, sang folk songs, etc. In his young days, he had been a boxer and a tight rope walker. All winter he would make snowshoes with moose skin and he would carve axe handles which he would sell. He was a saw and axe sharpener. He was a crack shot and would guide American hunters. He also worked in Joggin Mines with Thaddée for a spell. He spent some time in logging and lumber mills.
There was no electricity in the village before 1954 and no telephone. Alphée had a battery radio with a large antenna and they would listen to New Carlisle, Gaspé Peninsula, Québec at CHNC.
