    A memorial service will be held Sept. 18 for John S. Robotham of Eugene, who died Sept. 9 of Parkinson's disease. He was 81.
    Robotham was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Concord, N.H., to Reginald and Edna Strang Robotham. He served in the Army Air Force weather service and graduated from the City University of New York and Columbia Library School.
    He had worked as a librarian for the New York Public Library, and lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Eugene in 2000. A member and fellow in the Native Plant Society of Oregon, he enjoyed literature, art, music, nature and science.
    Survivors include his domestic partner of 30 years, Mary Johnson; a daughter, Joan Robotham of White Plains, N.Y.; a son, Thomas, of Norfolk, Va.; and two grandchildren.
    Sunday's service will be held at 2 p.m. in the third floor lounge at Ya- Po-Ah Terrace in Eugene.
    Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

    STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Alice Robotham, 92, of Richmond, a retired piano and voice teacher who loved singing and was a member of the St. Cecelia and her church choir, died July 18 in Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville.
    Born Alice Wheeler in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., she also lived in Tallahassee, Fla., and Manhattan before moving to Grymes Hill in 1954. She settled in Richmond in 1959 and lived there until entering Eger about a year ago.
    Mrs. Robotham earned her bachelor's degree in music, with a specialization in voice, from Florida State University, Tallahassee.
    She was a self-employed piano and voice teacher for 40 years, until retiring in 2005.
    Mrs. Robotham was a member of the St. Cecelia, and also belonged to the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
    She was fond of gardening, playing bridge, reading and participating in book clubs.
    "I remember her always singing around the house," said her son, Tom Robotham. "She would sing standards mostly, popular songs and those from musicals. She loved singer Jeanette McDonald, and she also loved opera."
    Mrs. Robotham was very warm and friendly, with a smile always on her face, he added. She was hospitable and welcoming, and enjoyed making everyone feel comfortable and at ease.
    She was a longtime parishioner of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Richmond, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir.
    Her husband of 49 years, John S., died in 2005.
    Surviving, along with her son, Tom, is her daughter, Joan Robotham, and two grandchildren.
    There will be a memorial Mass on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in St. Andrew's Church. Burial of her ashes will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Arrangements, including cremation, were handled by the Colonial Funeral Home, New Dorp.
