    MONTPELIER – Whitney F. Parker, 96, a longtime resident of Baldwin Street, died Feb. 9, 1994, in Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center.

    Born Feb., 1, 1898, in South Lancaster, N.H., he was the son of Frederick Parker and Grace (Thorpe) Parker. He was a 1919 graduate from the former Montpelier Seminary and 1924 graduate from the University of Vermont where he was awarded a bachelor of science degree in education, played football and was an avid history student. He received his master’s in education at Columbia University in New York City.

    He married Pansy M. Trow on June 30, 1933, in Montpelier. She died March 25, 1985.

    Mr. Parker taught high school in several areas of Vermont that included Groton and Marshfield, served as headmaster at Hartford (Vt.) High School and taught at Norwich University during World War II.

    In 1989, at age 91, Mr. Parker accompanied his nephew, Harry A. Morrison Sr., of Wellfleet, Mass., on a trip to Portugal and kept a daily journal of events. For the past three years, his constant companion was his grandnephew, H.A. “Chip” Morrison Jr. in Montpelier.

    He had a lifelong interest in farming and planted and tended a quarter acre vegetable garden in Orange until his health began to fail in 1993. He was also an active member and former treasurer of Trinity United Methodist Church.

    Survivors include one son, Barton B. Parker of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren, one nephew of Wellfleet, Mass., and Orange; two grandnephews and one grandniece, all of Massachusetts; and eight great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Barber and Lanier Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Montpelier. Calling hours are tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

    FL- Oliver was buried without a headstone and was age 50 at death according it personal records of William Brown Oulton. William also beleived he was Oliver Cromwell however the cencus records --see William Oliver under the Oultorpe file show that he was still living at age 53 i n 1881 Census..so I have concluded to drop the Cromwell and go with William Oliver and set the birth at between 1829 and 1830.
    Oliver was married under the name William Oliver Thorpe according to James R. Wood of Virginia.
