    MURRAY, Vaughn, 75, of Dartmouth, NS formerly of Oxford, NS passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Born in Roslin, NS, he was a son of the late James and Florence (Black) Murray. Vaughn is survived by his partner Patricia Croucher, daughter Dawn (Murray) Thompson Oxford, NS, and son Myron (Evelyn) Murray Colingwood, NS, he also leaves behind sisters Irma Rushton and Hazel Rushton of Truro, NS, and brother Douglas (Mary Lou) Murray of Truro, NS. Vaughn leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildrens and family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Angus Murray and sister Gladys Weatherby. Arrangements have been entrusted to the W Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, NS (902-447-2167) where visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11 am, Pastor Steve Adams officiating. Burial will take place in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford.

    Oxford - Mrs. H. Wallace Lowther, 39, of Oxford, died Saturday in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst.  Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of Norman R. Mattinson, Oxford and Georgie D. (Mayne) Mattinson, Toronto.  Besides her parents, she is survived by her husband, H. Wallace, a daughter, Carolann Dickie, at  home; a son, Myron Murray, Millvale, Cumberland County; a sister, Norma (Mrs. Gary Hunter), Leamington, Cumberland County, and a brother, Angus, Oxford.  She was predeceased by a son, Andrew Norman Murray and a brother, Charles, in infancy.  The body was at Allen's Funeral Home, Oxford, where funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Dewis Rector officiating, with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Oxford.

    MATTINSON, Norman Ray - 91, High-Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, formerly of Oxford, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully Thursday, October 31, 2002, in the nursing home. Born in Mount Pleasant, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Angus and Hilda Jane (McDonald) Mattinson. Prior to his retirement he spent his lifetime in the lumbering industry. Surviving are daughter, Norma J. Hunter (Gary), Leamington, Cumberland Co., son, Angus C. Mattinson, Oxford; sister, Mildred Priest (Lorne), Mount Pleasant; brother, Miner Mattinson, Oxford; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by daughter, Hilda R. Murray; grandson, Andrew Murray; brother, Lawrence R. Mattinson. Visitation will be this evening with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, both in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, Rev. Edgar Patriquin officiating. Interment will take place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Donations may be made to Mount Pleasant Cemetery Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.

    MATTINSON, Georgie Doreen - 79, Oxford, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, in Amherst.  Born in Oxford, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Rebecca (Mattinson) Mayne.  Georgie enjoyed playing bingo and picnicking.  She was always on the move and liked going to bluegrass festivals.  Georgie especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She is survived by her companion, Leonard Trowsse, Amherst; daughter, Norma (Gary) Hunter, Leamington; son, Angus, Oxford; sisters, Bertha (Eldon) Reid, Oxford; Jean Fraser and companion Bus MacDonald, Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Carol Anne Dickie, Myron Murray, Alan Hunter, David Hunter and Nancy Harroun; several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by daughter, Hilda; brothers, Bill, Herbert and Russell; sisters, Geraldine Mayne, Lottie Wilkson, Laura Fahey, Sadie Tait, and grandson, Andy Murray.  Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today, with funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, both in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main St., Oxford (447-2930), with Rev. Elizabeth Davies officiating.  Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or St. James Presbyterian Church.

    The funeral of Mr. Angus Mattinson, who was killed by the falling of a tree, took place Tuesday 19th, at Beckwith, the funeral service was conducted by Rev. W.J. Hamilton in the Baptist Church, where a large number of friends gathered and followed the remains to the cemetery.  Deceased was a son of deacon Joseph Mattinson, of Beckwith, he leaves a widow and two young children, a father and mother, two sisters, and two brothers, to mourn his loss, the entire community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.

    MOUNT PLEASANT - This community was shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing on April 12, of Hilda Jane Mattinson, wife of Ross Mattinson. She suffered a stroke in the early evening and passing away shortly after midnight. Born on Aug. 12, 1890, she was the daughter of the late Ellen and Jerry McDonald of Mount Pleasant, where she had spent almost her entire life. Twice married, her first husband was the late Angus Mattinson, who predeceased her 46 years ago. In 1919, she married Ross Mattinson, who survives her. She is also survived by three sons, Norman, River Philip; Miner, Oxford; by her first marriage; Lawrence of Oxford Jct., one daughter, (Mildred) Mrs. Lorne Priest, Oxford, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Besides the children she leaves to mourn three sisters, (Lina) Mrs. James Dickie, Oxford; (Mabel) Mrs. Stanley Dixon, Oxford; (Lottie) Mrs. Barry Mattinson, Mount Pleasant and two brothers John and Frank McDonald of Oxford. The funeral was held from Black's Funeral Home, Oxford, on Thursday, Apr. 14 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. John Porter, minister of the Oxford United Baptist Church. The hymns sung were "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The 23rd Psalm." Interment was in Birch Grove Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, directed by Frank Black and Son. Pallbearers were three nephews, Russell McDonald, Francis McDonald, Carl Dickie and Herbert Mayne, Aubrey Mattinson and William Cloney. The beautiful floral offerings were a final tribute to the deceased, showing the place she had held in the hearts of her loved ones and friends.
