    Hattie Smith March 22, 1945 - July 2, 2013
    It is with profound sadness that the family of Hattie Jacqueline Smith age 68 of Port Howe, NS announce her passing on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS. 
    Born in Truro, she was a daughter of Elsie M. (Finley) Burris of Pugwash and the late John H. Burris. 
    Hattie spent most of her working life helping to run the family’s dairy farm. She also owned a small health care uniform business. Hattie was very active in her community. She taught Sunday school, was a Leader for 4-H and belonged to the Women’s Institute, Farm Women and was involved in raising money for the local hospital with the Just Us group. Over the years she participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure, Relay for Life and Convoy for Hope. Hattie was a member of Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia and also made bracelets for Hattie’s Hope raising money for Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. 
    She will be deeply missed by her husband of 46 years, Darrell, son Darren (Sherry Stiles) of Linden and daughter Angela (Glenn Spurrell) of Langdon, AB, three granddaughters Emily, Kelsey and Elizabeth; four step granddaughters Brittany, Danielle, Stephanie and Haley; three brothers Harold (Marilyn) of Haileybury, ON, Lloyd of Linden and David (Marguerite) of St. Mary’s, ON, aunt Pauline Finley and several nieces and nephews. 
    Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst, NS (902-667-9906) 
    Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Campbell’s Chapel with Ruth Gamble officiating. 
    In keeping with Hattie’s hope for the future that a cure will be discovered, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or the charity of your choice.
