    SMITH, Ross Allison July 15, 1959 - December 25, 2005

    Ross Allison Smith age 46, of Shinimicas, passed away on December 25, 2005 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan surrounded by his family. He was an employee of the Canadian Salt Company in Pugwash for over 26 years. Ross enjoyed horses and woodworking. He was a 4-H Woodworking Leader with the Linden 4-H Club. Born in Amherst, he was a son of William Arnold Smith Sr. of Shinimicas and the late Pauline Hazel (Fillmore) Smith. Ross is survived by his wife the former Susan Joy Merrill, daughters Alison Joy (Andrew Rafuse) of Halifax and Jennifer Susan at home, brothers Arnold (Barb) of Shinimicas, Stewart (Bev) of Truemanville, Brian (Gretchen) of Shinimicas and sisters Hazel (Paul) Mahaney of Warren, Linda (Gerald) Clarke of Corn Hill, NB, Nancy of Cole Harbour and Jean of Shinimicas. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Margaret (Peg) Merrill of Amherst and sisters-in-law Gail (Gary) Embree of Amherst, Pat Firlotte of Grande Prairie, AB and Eileen Wood (Bill Ford) of Tyndal Road and numerous nieces and nephews. Ross was predeceased by his sister Brenda. His remains are resting at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Sunrise Trinity United Church, Amherst Head, with Rev. Ruth Gamble officiating. Interment will take place in the Shinimicas Cemetery.     SMITH, W. Arnold - 90, Shinimicas, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2006 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 20, 1915 in Baie Verte, N.B., he was a son of the late William Renaldo and Lillie Victoria (Oulton) Smith. After graduating from Amherst Academy in 1933, Arnold worked in the woods building roads, driving teams, worked in the saw mill for his dad and did some survey work for Charles H. Read, an Amherst lumberman. In the 1940's he also did some work for the government, breaking up land with his own equipment and loading gravel. From 1936 until late 1978 Arnold was heavily involved in the logging industry while maintaining the family farm in Shinimicas. He logged for himself as well as for the T.C. Glennie Lumber Company (1949-51) and the McLellan (Cobequid) Lumber Company (1951-78). In late 1978 Arnold retired from the logging business and farmed full time. During his farming years he did a lot of land clearing to increase acreage. He never fully retired from farming until late 2005. Arnold was a member of Sunrise Trinity United Church, a choir member for many years, a church elder, a member of Sunrise Senior Citizens and a former member of the Cumberland County Beef Producers and the Cumberland County Federation of Agriculture, serving as both director and president. He enjoyed reading, gardening and watching hockey and wrestling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and genealogy. Arnold is survived by sons, Arnold (Barb), Shinimicas; Stewart (Bev), Truemanville; Brian (Gretchen), Shinimicas; daughters, Hazel (Paul) Mahaney, Warren; Linda (Gerald) Clarke, Corn Hill, N.B.; Nancy Smith, Cole Harbour; daughter-in-law, Susan Smith, Shinimicas; brother, Harold (Jean), Amherst; sister, Maude Gray, White Rock, B.C.; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, the former Pauline Fillmore (1994); daughters, Jean (2006) and Brenda (1988); son, Ross (2005); sisters, Dorothy Odgen, Grace Oulton, and brothers, Layton, Victor, Austen and Allison. His remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with visiting today from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in Sunrise Trinity United Church, Amherst Head, with Rev. Steven Longmoore officiating. Interment will follow in Shinimicas Cemetery. Born in Bayside, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Richae and Bertha (Fillmore) Fillmore. She was a member of the Sunrise Trinity United Church, Head of Amherst and the church choir; member and president of the United Church Women; member of Sunrise Senior Citizens of Northport and was very active in community affairs. She is survived by her husband, W. Arnold Smith Sr.; four daughters, Jean, Shinimecas; Hazel (Mrs. Paul Mahaney), Warren, Cumberland County; Linda (Mrs. Gerald Clarke) Corn Hill, N.B.; Nancy, Dartmouth; four sons, Stewart, Truemanville, Cumberland County; Arnold Jr., Ross, Brian, all of Shinimecas; sister, Thelma (Mrs. Layton Smith), Amherst; 14 grandchildren.     AMHERST - The death of William Renaldo Smith occurred suddenly at his home on Eddy Street. He was 75 and a well known lumberman. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Smith of Shinimicas. Besides his second wife Rena, he is survived by three daughters, Maude (Mrs. B.C. Gray) Edmundston, N.B.; Mrs. W.C. Oulton, Brantford, Ont.; Mrs. H.M. Ogden, East Amherst; six sons, Layton, Halifax; Arnold, Shinimicas Bridge; Victor, Tyndal Road; Austin, Shinimicas Bridge; Harold, Amherst and Allison, Oxford; three step-children Todd T. Trenholm, Baie Verte Road, Mrs. Robert Oulton, Amherst and Mrs. Layton Cameron, Amherst. The late Mr. Smith will rest at Furlongs Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Shinimicas Bridge Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30.
