Charles was the only son of Charles who settled in Acadia. Other members of the family were deported to New England and, about 1768, they emigrated to Quebec. Charles was one of the "original tenants" of Desbarres at the Champs Elyses in 1768. He died between the years 1787 and 1789 because in the 1790 census, it reads: Widow Melanson, males 4, females 2. However,the Acadian prisoners were able to seize the boat and steer it to the mouth of the Saint John River. But if Charles Melanson's wife (Anne dit) Jeanne Bourg were really Bernard Bourg's daughter, then her son Pierre Melanson would havemarried his first cousin, Marie-Josephe Granger, whose mother was also BernardBourg's daughter(Marie). On the contrary, as the record of the marriage of Pierre Melanson and Marie-Josephe Granger, shows (Port Royal reg. 1 Feb 1746), the mothers of thisMelanson couple were only first cousins. Given that Marguerite Boudrot and Pierre LeBlanc's wife Madeleine Bourg appear among the godparents of Charles Melanson's children, it follows that it was (Anne dit) Jeanne the daughter of Francois Bourg and Marguerite Boudrot who married Charles Melanson. Jeanne Bourg, Bernard's daughter, thus married into the family of Claude Dugas, just as three of her sisters and one of her brothers did.Placide Gaudet apparently drew the same conclusion(Genealogies acadiennes p 655).
