FL- Came to the United States in about 1842 at age 11.--May have settled in the Pugwash area with Charles(3)and Christine who purchase property and took out a morgage in 1854 according to William Oulton of Christina Lake.See Letter to Mary dated 5 Jan 1990. William beleives he (George) was the oldest son and so I have included that in my file with a question.
William makes a further statement regarding George--the Wallace McGregors of California (who were apparently desecandants of George) who William was in contact with sent William a 1861 California newspaper clipping regarding George as follows: it being a writup of George Oulton who had won the bye election.--George married and had a son Gerard who became a ships captain. He the father of Jarade Oulton who married McGregor and they the parents of Wallace McGregor.--William had a picture of "the beautiful sailing vessel called the Eliza Oulton. ..obviously named for the wife of John Oulton. This vessel established some sailing records--This John Oulton with some financial help from Thomas ..built two vessels the Alpha and the Beta in the 1860's.The Alpha was sold to a Cape Breton buyer and the Beta took a cargo of logs to England and then took sands off Florida and later was lost in the Gulf of Mexico...Now I have understood that he had the Eliza built but as yet I have no proof. I know with the loss of the Beta there were financial pressures and John fails to show in the 1871 census. He is said to have removed to California and in the family plot at Pugwash,Pamerston Cemetary is the record of he death in 1877..just check cemetary records..it show John Oulton 1840-1877 died at Bakersfield,Kern County,California.

from Halifax Citizen, Tuesday, January 19, 1864

A Successful Nova Scotian. -- A few years ago a young man named George Oulton, living at Fraser's Mountain, in the County of Pictou, left his native Province to seek his fortune amoung the placers of California. He finally located himself in the City of Sacramento, where he has won his way to honor and distinction. In October last he was elected, by a majority of 20,000 votes, to the office of Controller of the State, an office second only in importance, dignity, and emolument, to that of Governor; and we are informed that his friends intend to nominate him for the latter position next October, with every present prospect of success. Mr. Oulton's friends in the neighborhood of New Glasgow, and in Pugwash, where we believe his family now reside, must be gratified to learn of the young man's successful career in the land of his adoption.

FL- Information received from Donald Keith Feb 2, 1995.
Jan 1999:dropped North London from the place of birth after temple ready suggested there was a problem. I then called information in Connecticut and the operator indicated that there was a Norwich in Connecticut but not a North London.I obtained from the operator a name of Henry Fillmore 1-860-564-2520 who lives in the area.
Abigail died of the feavor probably typhoid one day before her husband Charles and after the death of Mr.and Mrs. Oulton (probably parents Of George Oulton) and Mrs. Turma. They were buried in Jolicure Cemetary. Source: letter written by Joshua Tingley on the William Oulton file at Christina Lake.
May 1999:Note from Shirley Dobson of Moncton; the name Norwich was changed to North Franklin --because Norwich had English connections. Further note: Shirley file notes also indicate that she has two Windsor chairs that came from the home of Charles and Abigail's home and we re made in North Franklin. AS of 1999 Shirley says that they are in excellent shape.
August 1999:Shirley's letter she stated that "all the Oultons in New Brunswick descended from original settlers-Charles and Abigail." So me people including Stephen O. Oulton of Jolicure believe that all Oultons in Canada desecended from them.
