  1. 2.  Charles Melanson was born 1675, Port Royal (son of Charles (dit LaRamee) Mellanson and Marie Dugas); died 19 Sep 1757, Quebec.

    Notes:

Bona-vol.2,p.687-name,b.yr,marr.info. J02-p.191-Living at Port Royal, Charles seems to have embarked on the 'Pembroke' in 1755 to be transported to North Carolina. However, the Acadian prisoners were able to seize the boat and steer it to the mouth of the Saint John River. From here, they eventually were able to reach the city of Quebec, where Charles Melanson finished his days the 19 Sept. 1757. B29.p.13-b & d.yrs &locs;marr.info.

Charles married Anne dit Jeanne Bourg Abt 1700, Port Royal. Anne (daughter of Francois Bourg and Marguerite Boudrot) was born Abt 1684, Port Royal. [Group Sheet]

Bona-vol.2,p.687-name,marr.info;daug of Bernard & Francoise Brun -vol.2,p.450-b.yrof 1678,spouse B31,p.223,1155 and E.p.49-Port Royal census of 1693 gives her as age 9 at Alexander;1698 census age 15;1700 census age 22;1701 census age 23;says she married Charles Melanson, son of Charles and marie Dugas. Gives her parents as Francois Bourg andMarguerite Boudrot as does Placide Gaudet(Genealogies acadiennes p.655)- I believe this is these are the accurate parents andnot Bernard. Note on page 49 of English Translation says"Some genealogists have said that Bernard Bourg's daughter (Anne dit) Jeanne married Charles Melanson. This identification is evidently based upon the ages attributed to her in the censuses; Bernard Bourg's daughter Jeanne and Charles Melanson's wife (Anne dit) Jeanne were both born about 1678. But if Charles Melanson's wife (Anne dit) Jeanne Bourg were really Bernard Bourg's daughter, then her son Pierre Melanson would havemarried his first cousin, Marie-Josephe Granger, whose mother was also BernardBourg's daughter(Marie). On the contrary, as the record of the marriage of Pierre Melanson and Marie-Josephe Granger, shows (Port Royal reg. 1 Feb 1746), the mothers of thisMelanson couple were only first cousins. Given that Marguerite Boudrot and Pierre LeBlanc's wife Madeleine Bourg appear among the godparents of Charles Melanson's children, it follows that it was (Anne dit) Jeanne the daughter of Francois Bourg and Marguerite Boudrot who married Charles Melanson. Jeanne Bourg, Bernard's daughter, thus married into the family of Claude Dugas, just as three of her sisters and one of her brothers did.Placide Gaudet apparently drew the same conclusion(Genealogies acadiennes p 655).

He married in England about 1631 to Priscilla ... who was born in England and died at Boston at the end of 1691 or the beginning of 1692. She remarried at Boston or Dorchester, Massachusetts, 8 April 1680 to Captain William Wright, Senior. In the summer of 1657, Pierre Laverdure, his wife, Priscilla, and at least 3 sons, Pierre, Charles and John, arrived from England aboard the ship "Satisfaction" at Fort St John, Acadia. Pierre, a Frenchman, and his English wife and sons were all Protestants. They were among a group of colonist coming to settle under Sir Thomas Temple, newly-named governor of English-controlled Acadia. Fearing religious persecution, Pierre, Priscilla, and their son, John, sought refuge at Boston. The elder sons, Pierre and Charles, had already converted, married French-Catholic women and started families. They remained in Acadia. Although the reason remains unclear, the Laverdure brothers used the surname Mellanson. Their brother John who went to New England kept the name Laverdure. B31-p.247-"According to Joseph LeBlanc dit Le Maigre's deposition at Belle-Ile-en-Mer, his wife's maternal grandfather, Pierre Melanson(the son), had "come to Port-Royal from Scotland." According to the research of Father Clarence d'Entremont cited above, however, Pierre (Melanson dit) Laverdure (the father) was a French Protestant who married, during his exile in England, an Englishwoman named Priscilla. Brought to Acadia with his family by Thomas Temple in the spring of 1657, Pierre, his wife, and their youngest son withdrew to Boston after the Treaty of Breda in 1667. Their two other sons, already married to acadian women, remained in Acadia. La Mothe-Cadillac relates that in 1685 he saw these two brothers, whom he calls Scotsman, aged 60 and 65 years, who were married to French women.
