    Gerald R. Trenholm
    (November 24, 1923 - June 21, 2012)

    Gerald Ritchie Trenholm, husband of Mary (Smith) Trenholm, of Amherst and formerly of Fort Lawrence, passed away suddenly on June 21, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. He was a son of the late Alfred and Helen (Atkinson) Trenholm, born in Fort Lawrence in 1923, the last surviving member of his family. Leaving to mourn his passing is his wife Mary of 60 years, son G. Brian Trenholm (Barbara) Fredericton, NB, daughters Marlene Trenholm Pye (Hugh) Penticton, BC, and Susan Wall (Lloyd) Edmonton, AB, and three grandchildren, Lewis Pugh, Penticton; Tara Raberdeen (Steve) Smithers, BC, and Bradley Wall, Edmonton, AB. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, an infant grandson, Shane Russell Wall, as well as brother’s Gordon (Margaret); Aubrey (Josephine); Carmen (Phyllis) and sister Frances Glenwright (William). Gerald attended school in Fort Lawrence and the Amherst High School, and operated the family farm in Fort Lawrence, where he was the Postmaster for a number of years. During the war years he was employed at the former aircraft plant, Enamel & Heating, he operated Trenholm’s Texaco Service Station and managed the school bus office for McLellan Bus Line as well as driving a school bus for a number of years, retiring due to ill health. He made a trip to England with the Merchant Navy, on the Lady Nelson, after the war, to bring home the wounded troops. He was a member of Trinity St. Stephen’s United Church, Men’s Club, Friends Unlimited and the former Square Circle group. He enjoyed many years of curling and was a past member of the Amherst Curling Club, charter member of the Amherst Y’s Men, Cumberland Twirlers and active in several farm organizations. During his retirement years he spent the winters in Florida where he was active in shuffleboard groups and bridge clubs. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and made several overseas trips. He will be missed by his family and friends. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst (667-9906). No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church, Amherst with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.     AMHERST - Alfred McQueen Trenholm, 90, of Amherst, died Tuesday at Lockhart's Nursing Home. Born in Port Lawrence, he was a son of the late George and Arimenta (Bowser) Trenholm. He was a retired farmer. Surviving besides his wife, the former Helen Louise Atkinson, are four sons, Gordon, St. Catharines, Ont.; Aubrey, Port Lawrence; Carmen, Burlington, Ont.; Gerald, Port Lawrence; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, two sisters and a brother. The body is at Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst, where funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., Rev. Donald Linkletter officiating.Interment will be in the Point de Bute cemetery. Donations may be made to any charity.

    AMHERST - Mrs. Alfred Trenholm, 89, of Amherst, died Wednesday inLockhart's Nursing Home. Born in East Amherst, she was the former Helen Louise Atkinson, daughterof the late Edgar and Ida (Embree) Atkinson. She was a resident of Lockhart's Nursing Home for five years and aninvalid for 27 years. She was an active member of the Women's MissionarySociety and the UCW of Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, whichshe attended. Surviving are four sons, Gordon, St. Catharines, Ont.; Aubrey, Amherst;Carmen, Burlington, Ont.; Gerald, Fort Lawrence; a sister, Greta (Mrs.Courtney Lusby), West Amherst; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, a daughter, Frances, a sister,Florence and a brother Russell.
