    Obituary

Wilbert Mattinson, well known farmer of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home on Jan. 18, after an illness of 6 months.  The late Mr. Mattinson would have been 81 years old if he had lived until Jan 29.  He was born at Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Francis Mattinson and Nancy (Fahey) Mattinson.  His cheery disposition won him many friends.  During his illness he had many friends call to see him from far and near.  All through his sickness he never complained.  He was twice married.  His first wife was the former Bertha Adshade of Mansfield, who died in 1910.  His second wife was Florence Oulton of Baie Verte, N.B., who passed away in 1943.  His only son Ernest was drowned in 1944.  He is survived by four brothers, Joseph and Edmund, Mt. Pleasant; Gilbert of Beckwith; Jerry of Amherst; two sisters, Carrie of U.S.A., and Bertha of Truro.  Three brothers and a sister passed away a number of years ago.  The funeral was held Friday afternoon at
2 o'clock, Jan. 21, from Black's Funeral Home, Oxford, N.S., and was conducted by Mr. Fred Pauley, pastor of St. James Presbyterian Church.  The Presbyterian choir led in singing hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross", "Shall we Gather at the River" and "Beyond the Sunset", favorites of the deceased.  Mr. Pauley spoke comforting words to the bereaved.  The funeral was largely attended.  The pallbearers were Curry Thompson, Royal Simpson, John McDonald, Minor Mattinson, Orland Fraser, Lewis Thornthwaite.  Burial took place in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.  The flowers were very beautiful and included the following ...
