    May 19, 1926 to December 30, 2010 - We sadly announce the sudden passing of Eric Lawrence Teed, O.C.,C.D, Q.C., Kt.D., B.Sc., B.C.L., B.A of Saint John, New Brunswick on December 30, 2010. Born in Saint John on May 19, 1926 he was the son of Muriel Vivian (Wetmore) and John Francis Hannington Teed Q.C. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois Anita (Smith), sons: Robert, Peter (Cathie Hurley) of Saint John, Christopher (Brenda) of St. Stephen, Terrence (Karen) of Moncton, David (Julia) of Saint John, grandchildren: Allyson, Gregory, Sheena, Elliott (Anna), Laura, Daniel, Harrison, Stephanie, Emily and Andrew, and two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Dawson. Also survived by his brother Hugh (Betty) of Toronto, and sisters Gloria Trivett (Donald) of Clifton Royal, NB and Mary Gillis of Nova Scotia, he was predeceased by his brother George, and sisters Hazel Hazen, Beth Young, and Alice. Called to the Bar of NB in 1949, he had a distinguished law career for 60 years, retiring in June 2009. Appointed a Master of the Supreme Court of NB in 1958 and Queen's Counsel in 1966, his list of service to his profession is extensive and there are few committees at the provincial or national level in which he did not participate. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about law, he loved to share his knowledge and lectured on environmental, municipal, labour and civil liberties law at UNBSJ. Founding Editor of the University of New Brunswick Law Journal, he also served as a Member of the Board of Governors for University of New Brunswick, a Member of the UNBSJ Senate, and as President of the UNB Alumni (Saint John Chapter). It was during his tenure as Mayor for the City of Saint John that the Tucker Park lands were granted to establish the current UNBSJ campus. Eric's service to his community, for which he had great passion and love, was extensive. He served two terms as Mayor of Saint John from 1960 to 1964; served as an MLA for Saint John from 1970-74; and as a Councillor of the City of Saint John from 2001-2004. He served with the New Brunswick Scottish Regiment, attaining the rank of Captain, He was appointed a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog for his many years service as the Danish Consul in New Brunswick. Eric was a Freemason and a Past Master of Albion Lodge, and was an Honorary Member of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers International Union. In recognition of his long standing community service, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1987. He was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977 and the Queen's 50th Jubilee Medal in 1992. His opinion, knowledge and expertise were often sought concerning human rights and civil liberties. Involved in numerous organizations, he had served as President of the Saint John Charter Rights and Civil Liberties Association, President of the John Howard Society of New Brunswick (Saint John Branch), a founding member of the Elizabeth Fry Society, Secretary of the NB Human Rights Association, President of the Multicultural Association of Saint John, Honorary Counsel for the NB Anti-Poverty Association, and he had a lifelong commitment to the Scouting movement, serving as a Scout Master and later as Honorary Counsel for Scouts New Brunswick. Eric was a passionate historian and worked to ensure that Saint John's role in the history of New Brunswick was recognized. Over the years he served as Historian and President of the St. George's Society of Saint John, Chairman of the Fort La Tour Development Authority, President of the Saint John Horticultural Association, as a member of the Rockwood Park Advisory Board, Editor of the NB Historical Society Collections, President of the Loyalist Zone NB Senior Citizens Federation, and President of Seniors Information and Resource Centre. Eric was a published author and enjoyed contributing to the local news media. Eric and Lois enjoyed traveling, and visited all corners of the world. Eric Lawrence Teed's passion and generosity will be sadly missed by his family, his friends, the legal community, his City and his Province.
    Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and Monday, January 3, 2011 from 2 to 5 PM. The funeral service will be held from Trinity Anglican Church on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in All Saint's Cemetery, Clifton Royal, at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
    Members of the Mesonic Lodge will gather for a tribute service on Sunday at 7pm at the funeral home.

    "Mariner George, the oldest of the four sons, studied at both Mount Allison and Saint Joseph's Universities. He practiced law in Dorchester and later in Saint John and he was the Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Fredericton. He and his wife,
    former Margaret Hanington of Dorchester, continued to make their summer home in the shiretown where they had purchased Rocklyn, Edward Baron Chandler's Regency mansion."

    "John Teed married Mary Jane Bulmer of Frosty Hollow on May 29, 1856. The Reverend Thomas N. De Wolfe, rector of Sackville and Dorchester, performed the ceremony witnessed by Elizabeth Teed, the groom's sister, and George Moore of Dorchester. The bride was one of the thirteen children of George Nelson Bulmer and Latitia (sic) (Merrill) Bulmer, and the great-granddaughter of the first George Bulmer who, at the age of twelve, came from Yorkshire with Charles and Susannah (Coates) Dixon, later apprenticed to a stone mason and grew up to marry the second daughter of his sponsors."

    "John Tidd and Mary Jane Bulmer were married in the Anglican Church and in 1867 both were confirmed into that church by Bishop Medley in the Trinity Church, Dorchester."
