    SMITH, G. Allison - 76, Shinimicas, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, at home. Born in Amherst, he was the youngest son of the late W.R. and Lily V. (Oulton) Smith. He had worked in many lumber mills during his life starting with his dad, then with T.C. Glennie Lumber Co., G. Wilson Lumber Mill and as a Millwright Foreman with the Cobequid Lumber Co. After retiring, he ran his own hobby lumber mill. He had owned maple woods in Wyvern. He was a member of Shinimicas United Church. He enjoyed old time country music and played the fiddle, guitar and banjo. He enjoyed gardening as he had his own farm and was an avid outdoorsman. He is survived by his wife, the former Muriel MacAloney Smith; daughters, Cheryl Thompson and husband Bob, Fall River; Dorothy Bezanson and husband Nelson, East Amherst; Catherine Smith, at home; sons, William "Bill" and wife Catherine, Lower Sackville; Thomas, Shinimicas; David, at home; sisters, Maude Gray, Surrey, B.C.; Grace Oulton, Calgary, Alta.; brothers, Arnold, Shinimicas; Harold, Amherst; grandchildren, Matthew, Laura, Nathan, Alex, Wesley, Gregory, Connor and Cameron. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Dorothy Ogden; brothers, Austin, Victor and Layton. His remains are resting in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst with visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday. His funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in Shinimicas United Church, Rev. Morley Bentley officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Highland View Regional Hospital Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.

    AMHERST - The death of William Renaldo Smith occurred suddenly at his home on Eddy Street. He was 75 and a well known lumberman. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Smith of Shinimicas. Besides his second wife Rena, he is survived by three daughters, Maude (Mrs. B.C. Gray) Edmundston, N.B.; Mrs. W.C. Oulton, Brantford, Ont.; Mrs. H.M. Ogden, East Amherst; six sons, Layton, Halifax; Arnold, Shinimicas Bridge; Victor, Tyndal Road; Austin, Shinimicas Bridge; Harold, Amherst and Allison, Oxford; three step-children Todd T. Trenholm, Baie Verte Road, Mrs. Robert Oulton, Amherst and Mrs. Layton Cameron, Amherst. The late Mr. Smith will rest at Furlongs Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Shinimicas Bridge Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30.

    SMITH, Layton Harris - 89, East Amherst, formerly of Amherst, died January 28, 1997, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born at Shinimicas Bridge, he was a son of the late William and Lilly (Oulton) Smith. He was a member of Sunrise Trinity United Church, Amherst Head. As a young man, he spent a few years in the Boston area before returning to Shinimicas Bridge to operate the family farm. He later moved to Amherst, where his wife operated a boarding house and he took on the Masey Harris Farm Equipment Agency, which he operated until the mid 1940s. He then carried on a business as a heavy equipment operator throughout the Maritimes. He spent about eight years in Chatham, Ont., before returning to Amherst and working with Modern Construction until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, the former Thelma Fillmore; adopted daughters, Muriel (Mrs. Allison Smith), Shinimicas Bridge; Barbara (Mrs. Denzil Yach), Shawville, Que.; foster daughters, Beryl (Mrs. Richard Linton), Grand Manan, N.B.; Shirley (Mrs. Basil Keney), Halifax; sisters, Maude Gray, Abbotsford, B.C.; Grace Oulton, Calgary, Alta.; brothers, Arnold, Allison, Shinimicas Bridge; Harold, Amherst; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by sister, Dorothy Ogden; brothers, Victor, Austin. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst.     SMITH, Thelma Evelyn - 85, East Amherst, died January 3, 2000, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Port Elgin, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Richea and Bertha Fillmore. She was a member of the Shinimicas United Church and an avid supporter and honorary member of the UCW for many years. She had taught Sunday School, Mission Band, Explorers and supported the Red Cross. She had been a cook in many logging camps and had run several boarding houses in Amherst. She had lived in Ontario where she had run a boarding house and worked for Martin's Frozen Foods.     Obituary

    AMHERST - The death of William Renaldo Smith occurred suddenly at his home on Eddy Street. He was 75 and a well known lumberman. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Smith of Shinimicas. Besides his second wife Rena, he is survived by three daughters, Maude (Mrs. B.C. Gray) Edmundston, N.B.; Mrs. W.C. Oulton, Brantford, Ont.; Mrs. H.M. Ogden, East Amherst; six sons, Layton, Halifax; Arnold, Shinimicas Bridge; Victor, Tyndal Road; Austin, Shinimicas Bridge; Harold, Amherst and Allison, Oxford; three step-children Todd T. Trenholm, Baie Verte Road, Mrs. Robert Oulton, Amherst and Mrs. Layton Cameron, Amherst. The late Mr. Smith will rest at Furlongs Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Shinimicas Bridge Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30.
