OBITUARY

William D 'Bill' Brine
1914-2012

William D 'Bill' Brine, 97,of Amherst, passed away peacefully at the Northumberland Hall on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.  Born in Springhill, NS, he was a son of the late John and Annie (White) Brine.

During World War II, Bill served on the Corvette fleet in the Navy, first as a stoker and then as a chief Petty Officer.  After the war, he worked in the Yukon prior to moving back to NS.  After marriage, he operated a convenience store in Springhill before moving to Amherst, to work at various occupations.  Eventually, he worked as a boiler engineer and then as a commissionaire at Enamel & Heating in Amherst and Sackville.

Bill was a member of the Holy Family Parish Church. He was a member of the Canadian Council of the Blind, Cumberland Club (1st Charter President), and the Royal Canadian legion, Amherst Branch #10.  He was a member of the June Bugs Band, the Golden Echoes Band, and the Johnny Mooring Band, having been well known for the banjo and guitar.

Bill will be sadly missed by his son, Bill of Amherst and many nieces and nephews.  

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Leblanc), brothers Art and Henry, and his sister Irene Dorman.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St. Amherst , NS (667-8777) the family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with recitation of the Most Holy Rosary to begin at 8 pm.  A private service will be held at the funeral home at a later date with interment to follow in the spring.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of his soul and for all the souls in Purgatory.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and caregivers at Shannex Northumberland Hall for their caring and loving service while Bill resided there.
