    William Whitman Finch,  71, a retired oil burner technician, died suddenly, Thursday, February  8, 2001 at his home in Malden, MA. He was born and educated in Lowell and after completing high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. serving during the Korean Conflict. He remained in the Corp for twelve years and was discharged from active duty in 1962 and continued to serve in the Marine Corp Reserves for a number of years. Shortly after his discharge he stared his own business selling, installing and repairing oil burners which he operated until 1978. He then worked for Whaleco of Chelsea in the same capacity until his retirement in 1988. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Malden where he served as sexton and a member of the choir and was also a member of the American Legion Post 69 of Malden.  Mr. Finch lived in Malden, MA for close to fifty years and was previously from Lowell.
    He is survived by his wife Helen  E. (Strang) Finch, his daughter, Ellen F. Finch Mokler of Malden, his son, Richard W. Finch of Malden, his brother, Robert Finch  of Lowell, his sisters, Sophie Andrews and  Rose Stacey both of Lowell.
    He was preceded in death by his brothers,  Frederick Finch, and Louis Finch.
    He was born November  5, 1929 in Lowell, Massachusetts the son of the late Rayal and Carolyn (Pauly) Finch. 
    He served in the Marines during Korean Conflict having attained the rank of Sergeant E-4. enlisted on July 31, 1950 at Boston discharged on May 24, 1962 at  Camp Lejeune, NC.  
    Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM
    Contributions in Bill’s name may be made to the Organ Restoration Fund of the First Baptist Church 493 Main St. Malden, MA 02148
    Funeral services will be held Monday, February 12, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church 493 Main St. Malden, with the Rev. Martha A. Dominy officiating.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.

    Helen Esther Finch, 78, a  longtime resident of Malden, passed away on  Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was born  1932 in Boston, the daughter of Richard and Ella (Bruce) Strang. She was raised and educated in Malden. After graduating from Malden High with the class of 1950, she attended the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.  She then took employment wth the MDC at Stone Zoo as a secretary.  In 1955, she married her sweetheart, William Finch.  Soon after, Helen left her job with the zoo to raise her children.  She was active with the Girl Scouts when her daughter Ellen was in the troop.  She was also a member and past Chaplain for the Rainbow Girls, a Masonic women’s order. 
    Helen, along with her husband Bill, were both very active members of the First Baptist Church of Malden.  She served there as a deacon, was a member of the choir, and taught Sunday school for many years.  She enjoyed crocheting pieces and making Christmas ornaments for the church fair, and preparing food for their regular "bean suppers".  
    She is survived by her children,  Ellen Mokler  of Kennebunk, ME, and, Richard Finch  of Malden, and her grandchildren, Samuel Mokler, Emily  Mokler, Ryan Finch, and Kyle Finch.
    Helen was preceded in death by her husband William, and her parents, Richard and Ella (Bruce) Strang.
    Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Malden, 493 Main Street, Malden, on Sat, Dec 11th, at 10AM.  Visitation will be held a the Weir MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, on Fri, Dec 10th, from 4 – 8 PM.  
    In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 493 Main St. Malden, 02148
