    SOBEY, Stephen Hugh “Steve”, age 61 of Mount Uniacke passed away peacefully at the QEII Health Science Centre,VG Site, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with   cancer. Born in Newcastle, N.B. Jan. 3, 1952, he was the son of the late Wesley and Jean ( Cadger) Sobey. As a young man, Steve worked in the mines in N.B. before moving to Halifax to follow a lengthy occupation in the glass business and most recently as a hydraulics’ technician. He enjoyed snowmobiling, promoting his son and daughter in stock car racing, playing darts, curling and belonged to the metro pool league for a number of years. Survived are his loving wife of 40 years, Erma of Mount Uniacke, daughter Veronica Sobey, Porters Lake,  son Wesley, Mount Uniacke, brothers Charles ( Cindy) Sobey North Bay, Ont., John “Jack” ( Elvina) Sobey, Chatham, N.B. , sister-in-law Beryl Sobey, grandchildren Hannah and Mary, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother, Vincent and sisters, Lillian, Hazel and Shirley. No visitation will be held. Memorial service will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth on Tuesday February 12 at 2pm. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place with burial at Maple Glen Cemetery, N.B. at a later date. Flowers from family only. Donations may be made in Steve’s  memory  to the Canadian Cancer or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A special thank-you is extended from the family to the Palliative Care Team of the V.G. Hospital and also family and friends who visited during Steve's stay in hospital.

    Sarah "Jean" Sobey The death of Sarah "Jean" Sobey widow of the late Wesley C. Sobey of Maple Glen, NB occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the age of 91. Born in Scotland, Jean was the daughter of the late John B. and Sarah (Oliphant) Cadger. Jean is survived by one daughter, Shirley Marsh (Ralph) of Timmins, ON; four sons, Vincent (Beryl) of Ignace ON, Charles (Cindy) of St. Charles, ON, Jack (Elvina) of Miramichi, NB, Stephen (Erma) of Halifax, NS; one sister, Christine Jardine of Maple Glen, NB; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two daughters, Lillian Jardine and Hazel Matchett; one sister, Marjorie and four brothers, William, David, Jimmy and Ronnie. Visitation was held at Bell's Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9. Funeral Service was held on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 4 PM from the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel with Wayne Hutchison and Eric Lockhart officiating. Organist, Veralynn Harrison; Congregational Hymns, "When Life Is Ended" and "Christ For Me". Poem was read by Jamie Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers, Ed Curtis, George Sobey, Hazen Smallwood, Scott Sobey, Arnold Sobey Dave Froy, Ray Smallwood, Robert Buckley and Craig Jardine. Active Pallbearers, Dennis Sobey, David Jardine, Wesley Sobey, William MacEachern, Jeremy MacEachern, Jimmy Jardine and Michael Marsh. Burial followed in the Maple Glen Cemetery, Maple Glen, NB. In Jean's memory a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Maple Glen Cemetery Fund, Funeral arrangements were under the care of Bell's Funeral Home, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi, NB Telephone 506-622-3600
