    Obituary

A memorial service will be held tomorrow in Oceanside, Calif. for Dr. Carrol O. Morong, 68, former headmaster of the Peddie School in Hightstown.
Dr. Morong, who died suddenly Wednesday at his Oceanside home, came to the Peddie School as headmaster in 1949.  Prior to that, he was at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, N.Y.  He served as Peddie's headmaster for 15 years, until 1964.
During his administration, 40 acres were added to the campus, and the golf course was extended from 9 to 18 holes.  The Mills Memorial Gymnasium, started under the former headmaster, Dr. Wilbour E. Saunders, was completed and the Ayer Memorial Chapel, the Walter H. Annenberg Library, the Caspersen Science Building and five new faculty houses were erected, besides numerous renovations and enlargements to many other buildings.
DR. MORONG left Peddie to conduct the successful financial drive for the World Mission of the American Baptist Convention.  Following that, he became the vice president of the California Baptist Theological Seminary of Berkley and Santa Monica.  In 1972, he retired and moved to Oceanside, Calif.
Dr. Morong was born in Rowley, Mass., attended Haver Hill High School, and Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, receiving his degree in 1935.  He continued study at American University, George Washington University and Harvard University.  In 1943, while holding a pastorate at Waltham, Mass., he completed his work for a PhD at Boston University.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Mattinson Morong; one son, C. Oscar Morong Jr. of Mountainside; three daughters, Mrs. Joyce Turner of Pineville, La., Mrs. Barbara Hawkins of Normal, Ill., and Mrs. Judith Draver of Winchester, Va.; and a sister in Los Angeles, Calif.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll O. Morong scholarship fund at Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, Newton Centre, Mass.
