    Obituary

Funeral of Late Mrs. S. Robertson of Barney's River - The death of Mrs. Stewart Robertson which occurred, following a long illness on Tuesday night, February 28th, at nine o'clock, at her home at Barney's River Station, caused widespread regret. Mrs. Robertson (Della Breakwell) was born in Highwood, Illinois. She was a daughter of Samuel J. and Mary Breakwell, of that city. Her father is still living, but her mother predeceased her eighteen years ago. She came to Nova Scotia thirty years ago and has since continuously resided at Barney's River Station, where she took an active interest in all that pertained to the best interests of the community. She was a fine type of womanhood, a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbour, a loyal friend, kind and thoughtful of others and a splendid Church worker. She was possessed of unusual charm and sweetness of personality, and was loved by all who knew her. She did a great deal of good in a quiet way and her works will follow her. Mrs. Robertson was a great lover of flowers and enjoyed working with them. This was an indication too, of her character. "Flowers," 'til said, "reach to us, if we will hear." "They are akin to human beings." The fragrance and beauty of her garden was not only a source of happiness to herself, but it gave pleasure to all that passed by. It stimulated a love for the beautiful and played its part in esthetic culture in the community. Mrs. Robertson is survived by her husband; three sons, Dale, of Broadway; Melvin, at present at Seal Harbour, and John at home; two daughters, Rose, Mrs. Gordon McCulloch and Evelyn, Mrs. Walter Taylor, both of Barney's River, and five grandchildren. She is also survived by her father Samuel Breakwell; two brothers, Dale of Mossbank, Saskatchewan, and Ira, of Highwood, Illinois, and four sisters, Irene, Mrs. Buck, May, Mrs. Ed Smith, both of Highwood; Ivy, Mrs. William MacLeod, of Pasadena, California and Olive, Mrs. Charles Davidson, of Petit Lake, Illinois. Evidence of the high regard in which Mrs. Robertson was held was seen in the very large number who attended the funeral service, held at her late home on Thursday afternoon. Rev. D.A. MacKinnon, of the Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville, conducted the service and spoke comforting words to the grief stricken family, who at this time feel so deeply the loss of a beloved wife and mother. Mrs. MacKinnon paid a very high tribute to the deceased, "always the gracious lady." He spoke of her gentile nature and generous heart, her active and helpful work in the Church and of....(part of the notice is missing here)...The many lovely floral offerings were a further tribute to the esteem and respect in which Mrs. Robertson was held and in them was seen the deep sympathy for the bereaved family. The pallbearers were two sons-in-law, Gordon McCulloch and Walter Taylor....(balance of notice
is missing, Della was buried in Hattie Cemetery.)
