    EDGETT'S LANDING, NB - Melvin Ottis Tingley , 84, of Albert Mines Rd., Edgett's Landing, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2003 at his home, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Melvin was born in Beaverbrook on September 14, 1919, the son of the late Darcy and Harriett (Gough) Tingley. He did lumbering and worked at Eastern Bakeries, and retired from Eaton's in Ontario. He attended the Curryville United Church. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 32, Hillsborough. He was a veteran and served as a Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineer. Melvin loved scenery and loved to travel and travelled across Canada twice and many other places in the United States and Barbados. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent time fishing and hunting. He liked making maple syrup and made many bottles for family and friends. He also was an avid gardener spending hours in his garden, winning 1st for the best vegetable garden in 1988. He also enjoyed reading. Later in life, Melvin took up oil painting which he enjoyed very much and was very well known around the community for his beautiful paintings. He was a very special person who always had a little smile for everyone. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a beloved husband and he and his wife cherished the time they spent together . He will be deeply missed by his devoted and loving wife Marion; his daughter, Sarah Boyce (Chet) of Northwood, New Hampshire; sons, Morris Tingley (April) of Curryville and Kenneth Bannister of Oshawa, ON; three brothers, Arthur Tingley of Riverside-Albert, Charles Tingley (Stella) of RiversideAlbert and George Tingley (Elmonde) of Hillsborough; seven precious grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Alice and Marion; two brothers, James and Willard. Melvin will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held from the Albert County Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mary Rowe officiating. The Legion will hold their memorial service just before the funeral service on Wednesday. Interment will be held in the Curryville United Cemetery, Curryville. Donations to the Curryville United Church, Curryville Cemetery, the Forest Dale Van Fund or the charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
