    Obituary

    Gertrude "Gertie" Hollis 1935-2014
It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Gertrude "Gertie" Hollis, age 79, of Tidnish Bridge, NS.  Gertrude passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 30, 2014.
Born in North Port, NS she was a daughter of the late Roy and Gladys (Fisher) Brownell.
Gertie was a very active lady who worked with her hands, hooking, knitting, sewing, quilting and making crafts.  Everything she made she gave away, and her beautiful work has spread all over the world.  She worked for many years at the Dartmouth Children's Training Centre and the Amherst School for the Deaf.  She was a member of many organizations including the Red Hatters, the Sunrise Seniors, the Seniors Expo, 40 years with the Waverley Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Waverley Volunteer Fire Department, and endless others.  A true selfless lady, she never stopped giving of herself.  Most important to Gertie was her family; she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Her family would like to express heartfelt thanks to her many friends who were with her when she passed, who offered comfort and support.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Leon (Elaine) Oulton, Waverley, NS, Trudy (Jimmy MacAlpine) LeBlanc, Beaver River, NS, and Hector (Ann Dobson) MacIntosh, Coburg, NB; grandchildren, Paige, Mitchell, Corey, and Mallory; great grandson Benjamin; brothers Jerry (Grace) Brownell, Truro, and Gary Brownell, Dartmouth.
She was predeceased by her husband Ivan Hollis and her son Robert A. Oulton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where a funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 2 pm, Ruth Gamble DLM officiating.
