    Gary Hawkes (April 14, 1947 - December 31, 2012)
    Gary David Hawkes age 65 of Amherst passed away peacefully in the early hours on Monday, December 31, 2012 in the comfort of his own home, while surrounded by his loving family.  Born April 14, 1947 in Sackville, NB, Gary was a son of the late Orland and Clissie (Dobson) Hawkes. Gary proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a member of the military Police, serving in Europe and the Middle East until his retirement. Gary was also a past member of the Blackwatch for several years. Following his retirement, Gary was employed in the blueberry industry with his brother; Wayne as well as the forestry industry with his son; Gary Jr. Gary also worked in the Corp of Commissionaires in Amherst and Springhill area. Most recently he was working for the Lighthouse Market in Amherst as a baker.  In his spare time he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.  Gary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy Hawkes (nee Johnston); son, Gary Blair Jr. (Connie) Hawkes, Amherst; daughters, Sherry Chapman and Rhonda (Kenny) Embree both of Amherst; step daughter, Debra Wagenaar, Amherst; step son, Tim Wagenaar, Beamsville, ON; sister, Gloria Stewart, Amherst; grandchildren, Jessie, Danielle, Jordan, Ashley, Keisha and Brandin.  As well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.  Besides his parents, Gary was predeceased by his brother Wayne Hawkes.  A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. followed by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 10 tribute service and funeral service all at Campbell’s Funeral Home Chapel, 98 Church St. Amherst (667-9906), Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.  Interment will take place in the spring in the Amherst Cemetery.
