Wilbert Mattinson, well known farmer of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home on Jan. 18, after an illness of 6 months. Â The late Mr. Mattinson would have been 81 years old if he had lived until Jan 29. Â He was born at Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Francis Mattinson and Nancy (Fahey) Mattinson. Â His cheery disposition won him many friends. Â During his illness he had many friends call to see him from far and near. Â All through his sickness he never complained. Â He was twice married. Â His first wife was the former Bertha Adshade of Mansfield, who died in 1910. Â His second wife was Florence Oulton of Baie Verte, N.B., who passed away in 1943. Â His only son Ernest was drowned in 1944. Â He is survived by four brothers, Joseph and Edmund, Mt. Pleasant; Gilbert of Beckwith; Jerry of Amherst; two sisters, Carrie of U.S.A., and Bertha of Truro. Â Three brothers and a sister passed away a number of years ago. Â The funeral was held Friday afternoon at
2 o'clock, Jan. 21, from Black's Funeral Home, Oxford, N.S., and was conducted by Mr. Fred Pauley, pastor of St. James Presbyterian Church. Â The Presbyterian choir led in singing hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross", "Shall we Gather at the River" and "Beyond the Sunset", favorites of the deceased. Â Mr. Pauley spoke comforting words to the bereaved. Â The funeral was largely attended. Â The pallbearers were Curry Thompson, Royal Simpson, John McDonald, Minor Mattinson, Orland Fraser, Lewis Thornthwaite. Â Burial took place in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
