    After the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, when Acadia was ceded to England, Michel Hache-Gallant thought about moving to Ile Royale. On the day after New Year's Day 1714, he and his son, Michel, left for Cape Breton and did not return to Beaubassin until May of that year.

    A note written in the parish register at Port Lajoie dated July 17, 1737, said that Michel Hache dit Gallant, husband of Anne Cormier, fell through the ice at the mouth of the North River on the 10th of April in the present year and had not been found until this day.

They renounced their Protestantism at thier marriages in Port Royal. Lamothe-Cadillac's memories, dated 1692, mentions two Scotsmen living in Acadia and whose mother still lived in Boston. J02-p.191-He was the son of Pierre Melanson dit Laverdure, a French protestant, who married in exile in England to an English girl by the name of Priscilla. Brought to Acadia with his family by Thomas Temple in the spring of 1657, Pierre, his wife and their youngest son withdrew to Boston after the treaty of Breda in 1667. Their two other sons, already married to Acadian girls, remained in Acadia. The oldest of these sons was Charles, born about 1643, and married to Marie Dugas... B29-p.7-In the summer of 1657, Charles arrived from England aboard the ship "Satisfaction" at Fort St John, Acadia. With him were his brothers, Pierre and John, and his parents, Pierre Laverdure, his father, and

    Priscilla, his mother. The father was French, the mother English,and the family was Protestant. They were among a group of colonists coming to settle under Sir Thomas Temple, newly-named govenor of English-controlled Acadia. Acadia remained under English rule until the Treaty of Breda was signed in 1667, transferring it back to France. Fearing religious persecution, Pierre and Pricilla and their son John sought refuge at Boston. The elder sons, Pierre and Charles, had already converted, married French-Catholic women and sterted families. They remained in Acadia.
