    Margaret Melanson

    Surrounded by her family, Margaret M. Melanson, age 89, of Port Howe, formerly of Amherst, passed away peacefully at the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash on Saturday,October 2, 2010.
    Born in Middle Sackville, NB, she was a daughter of the late Moses and Gertrude (White) LeBlanc.
    Growing up, she was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church,
    Sackville, and later St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Amherst.
    Margaret was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, raising her family, as well as tending children in her home after her own had grown up. She was the hostess at the Fort Cumberland Hotel for many years Margaret enjoyed fishing, clamming, gardening, camping, traveling, tending to her flower beds and visits from her many friends. Upon their retirement, she and her husband Leon moved to their Cottage at Heather Beach where they enjoyed spending their time together. She always looked forward to family gatherings, especially the family reunion, enjoying the fellowship of family and friends.
    She will be sadly missed by her son; Roger (Arlene), Fenwick; daughters, Carolyn Godfrey, Port Howe, Janet Pickering, Amherst, Susan Melanson, Port Howe; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother Donnie, Toronto; sisters Phyllis McKinnon, Cape Breton, Helen Vezina, Oshawa, ON, Jean Ann (Edwin) Hawkes, Edmonton, AB. She was predeceased by her husband Leon; sons Donald and John David; grandchild, Terri-Lynn; brothers, Bobby, David; sisters Rita Walsh, and Jean White.
    Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777). Visiting hours will take place at the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home from 9:30 until the time of the Funeral Mass which will be held from Holy Family Parish Church at 11 am on Wednesday, October 7,2010, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
    Burial will take place at the St. Charles Cemetery at a later date.
    Those wishing to make a donation in Margaret's memory may do so to the Liver Society, or a charity of their choice.
