    LeBlanc, Donald Joseph Arthur
    June 23, 1932 –June 11, 2021

    LeBlanc, Donald Joseph Arthur - 88, Oxford Junction and formerly of Joggins, passed away Friday, June 11th, 2021 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Joggins on June 23, 1932, he was a son of the late Gabriel and Melinda (Vienneau) LeBlanc. Donald attended school in Joggins until Grade 9, then River Hebert Rural High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from St. FX in 1954 and Bachelor of Education degree from Mount Allison University in 1956. Donald taught school at Liverpool Regional High School for 6 years, River Hebert District High School for 29 years and taught Driver’s Education for 25 years. He was a former member of River Hebert and Oxford Legions and current member of Joggins Legion, long-time member of Oxford Area Lions Club, honourary member of Amherst Kinsman Club, Commanding Officer of River Hebert Royal Cadet Corp, then a member of Oxford Army Cadet Corp and Member of NS Army Cadet League of Canada. Donald was past Secretary/Treasurer of Joggins Volunteer Fire Dept and Ragged Reef Cemetery. He was one of the founding members of Joggins Youth Club and managed it for 6 years. He was director at Dickey Park Pool for 28 years, where many lasting friendships were made. He participated in and coached many sports teams in Cumberland County. Donald was also a Commissioner of Oaths for Nova Scotia. He is survived by his wife, the former Joanna McLeod; son, Michael; daughters, Charlene (Mike) Daborn; Joanne LeBlanc (Richard Cormier); son-in-law, George Damery; grandchildren, Jason (Charmaine), John, Calvin (Laura) and Courtney; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan LeBlanc and Marie (the late Chester) Sanford; stepsons, Michael (Grace) McLeod; Chad (Kim) McLeod; Jeffrey (Marianne) McLeod; stepdaughter, Jan (John) Porter; 9 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marie Damery; former wife and mother of his children, Betty (Terrio) LeBlanc. A special thank you to the nurses and all other staff at CRHCC for the wonderful care they gave Donald in the hospital. A Royal Canadian Legion tribute service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, followed by visitation from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, both in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11 in Trinity United Church, Oxford. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.mmcfunerals.com.
