Based on the best available information we believe that both Charles Oulton and Abigail Fillmore arrived in the Chignecto Isthmas in 1759 and thus, 2009 will be the 250th anniversary of this event. To celebrate this milestone, initial planning has begun for a 250th Anniversary Family Reunion for all descendants of Charles and Abigail, tentatively set for July 24-26, 2009 in Port Elgin, New Brunswick. |

For those of you who don’t know Frances’ background: Frances is the daughter of Louis Terrio (Theriault) and Jennie DesBarres. Although she is the second born of Louis and Jennie’s seven children, Frances grew up being the eldest child in the family because the first born child in the family did not survive infancy. Frances grew up with four younger brothers and a younger sister. She was born in Lower Cove and her youth was lived in Minudie and surrounding area, attending church and the one-room school house in Minudie. In her early twenties, she studied at night school to become a nursing assistant and worked in Amherst for many years. In her late thirties, she married George Legere at St Denis Church in Minudie. After her marriage, Frances and her husband lived on a farm in River Hebert. They had only one child, a daughter, who kept them young at heart. I remember hearing of Frances when I traveled to Nova Scotia with my parents in 1972. My father, Sherman, who had not visited the Maritimes for fourteen years, wanted to visit many relatives and friends, including his first cousin, Frances. Because I was interested in collecting information on the family tree, it was decided that we should visit Frances’ younger sister, Irene, who was a local historian. My father, my Aunt Kathryn and I headed out for the afternoon with planned visits, first to Irene’s home and then to Frances’ home. When I met Irene, she and I bonded almost instantly over discussions of the family tree and I decided to remain there for the rest of the afternoon. My father and aunt continued on to visit Frances without me. In 1972, Frances would have been 69 years old. Irene and I kept in touch over the years, and I would sometimes hear Frances’ name mentioned in a story that Irene would tell me. Many years passed and finally I met Frances at the Terrio Reunion in August 1997 when she was 94 years old. It was a delight to meet her and talk with her. And, I soon realized that she, too, knew a lot of local history and I wish I hadn't waited 25 years to meet her. Frances says that her own health has always been good and that she has always been a happy person. She is a remarkable lady and her mind and memory are still sharp. Today, she does require assistance to walk. She loved to read but is limited in her reading now because of her failing vision. And, although her hearing is failing, she enjoys talking with visitors. Presently, Frances lives in Gables Lodge in Amherst, Nova Scotia, having moved there in December 2007. |

We have updated the photo gallery software used on ourmaritimeties.com and have included the capability for Registered Users to upload photos or other media for inclusion on the site. We have also rearranged the albums in the Photo section. All Registered Users will be able to upload photos to a new Upload album, but this album should only be used for images that are suitable to viewing by the general public. That is, photos of living persons should not be uploaded here but in the Private family albums. Photos will be moved from this album to the appropriate album on a periodic bases and linked into the genealogy pages. For each of the major families we are researching, there are albums for Old Photos, Headstones and Private Photos. The images in the first two albums are those linked to individuals or places in the genealogy pages. Access to the Private Photo albums are restricted to Registered Users who are members of this family. To obtain access to these private family albums, you must select the family when you register or by updating your Profile; and you must provide sufficient information so we can connect you to an identified ancestor in the families we are researching. If you are not already in our family tree, please provide sufficient data (full name, full birth/marriage/death dates and locations) so we can do this. For currently registered users, you should have access to these private albums. If you do not, it is likely due to us not knowing how you connect to the family you selected. Please send us the information, as given above, so we can connect you and provided you access to the private albums. Access to these private albums will allow you to add items or sub-albums of items for viewing by other family members. Please note though that we have sufficient but not unlimited space for these items. So please upload those photos of the new baby, family get togethers or the visit to the old homestead, but not the 300 photos of your winter vacation to the sun. We reserve the right to delete any photos that we feel is not appropriate for this site. We hope you enjoy and use this new capability. Please let us know if you have any questions, comments or problems. |
